Prep Dig was in attendance and scouted a club team in the Freedom Division with players primarily from Olathe schools.
The Jr. Wildcats lost 25-22, 25-23 in the first gold bracket match of the day against Highland Performance 16-1, a team made up of students from Missouri high schools near the St Joe area. The Wildcats finished the tournament with a match record of 1-4.
Here is a scouting report on the players who stood out for the Wildcats.
Michaela Samson, 5’7”, OH, Olathe North
Samson finished with six kills, four serve receptions, two digs, and two blocks. She has a solid serve and added one ace to her stat sheet. She plays hard, hits the ball hard, and could be a possible six-rotation option.
Ava St. John, 5’9”, OH, Olathe North
St. John has a very athletic frame and appears that she might have one more growth spurt in her. St. John finished with five kills, three serve receptions, and two digs in the Sunday morning action. She has a solid balance between her reach and her ability to jump. She should have an increased role for the Eagles in 2023.
Hannah Mueller, 5’5”, S, Spring Hill
Again and again, I just keep running into Spring Hill players and you wonder how many teams Spring Hill would need to provide playing time for all the talent in the school. Mueller racked up 12 assists and four digs in the loss. She has a really solid touch and puts her hitters in advantageous positions. I am very comfortable in predicting she will find a college program to play with before her 2025 graduation.
Claire Nadler, 5’10”, MH, Olathe North
Olathe North has another solid young prospect in Claire Nadler. She had three kills, two digs, and two serve receptions. Her height is what first sticks out and being tall opens lots of doors in the volleyball world. She is a rawer talent than the other two hitters in this report, but there is no doubt she could have a bright future in the game moving forward.
Madelyn Bettman, 5’5”, Libero, Olathe South
On the opposite end of Olathe, you will find Falcon prospect Maddie Bettman. She finished with nine digs and nine serve receptions for the Wildcats. She is an athletic libero and has a little jump in her game as well. She makes consistent first passes and has a nice working base.
