The focus during this film session was on defensive players in Class 3A.
Here is a report on six athletes who posted solid numbers in 2022 digging the ball and making quality serve receptions.
Alex Bittner, 5’9”, UT, Cheney
Bittner can play every position on the court. She finished her junior season with 463 digs but also added 193 kills. She can set, hit, and play defensive specialist if needed. She has long arms and can really jump. She plays club ball with KS Networks.
Hope Duncan Hope Duncan 5'8" | DS/L Smoky Valley | 2024 State KS , 5’9”, DS, Smoky Valley
Smoky Valley has been producing college-level talent consistently over the past few seasons. Duncan is next in line to cash in her volleyball skills for scholarship opportunities. She finished her junior season with 423 digs and racked up 426 kills. She communicates well on the court and is a solid teammate. She plays club ball for KS Networks. Her heart seems to be in playing defensive specialist at the college level.
Sam Estes, 5’4”, L/DS, Douglass
Estes has a solid defensive frame and has been coached up well. She finished her junior season with 357 digs and 553 serve receptions. She makes consistent first passes and will lay out for digs.
Ryan Leathers, 5’5”, L, Rossville
Leathers has quick feet and plays with high energy. She finished her junior season with 356 digs. She is definitely providing a spark and is a leader on the Bulldog squad.
Peyton Coonrod, 5”6”, L, Ellsworth
Coonrod is a three-sport star for the Bearcats. She accumulated 309 digs and 522 serve receptions for Ellsworth in the 2022 season. She also plays softball and basketball.
Jordyn Boxberger, 5’7”, OH, Hoisington
Boxberger can fill up a stat sheet for the Cardinals. She finished the 2022 season with 304 digs, 506 serve receptions, and 277 kills. She could be a six-rotation player at the JUCO level. She is also a shooting guard for the Hoisington Cardinals.
