The Grand Rapids area gets a lot of attention for volleyball in this state, and rightfully so.
However, just a little south of GR features some great volleyball talent as well.
Southwest Michigan brings a lot of overall depth in talent coming into the 2023 prep season.
Here’s nine players that are set for a big fall in SW Michigan.
Aubree Calloway Aubree Calloway 5'9" | OH Bronson | 2025 State MI , MH Bronson (2025)
Another in a line of great hitting prospects out of Bronson, Calloway uses her natural athleticism to be a real force at the net. She can bring down a real powerful attack, but also has the ability to adjust mid-swing to play a well-place offspeed shot. Calloway is a multi-sport star, which means she can make an impact a number of ways for the Vikings during volleyball season.
Grace Chisek, S Watervliet (2024)
Chisek helped Watervliet rack up 40 wins in 2022 as an on-court leader. She’s got a lot of natural feel for the position and knows how to bring the best out of her teammates. Chisek gives her all for each point and can make a big defensive play as easily as she can make a perfect set.
Taygan Corstange Taygan Corstange 5'4" | DS/L Gull Lake | 2025 State MI , L/DS Gull Lake (2025)
Corstange had a breakout 2022 fall season for Gull Lake and has the Blue Devils excited for what she can do in 2023. The back row was locked down with her last year, as she nearly amassed 600 digs. She’s quick and very decisive in her movement and choices. Corstange looks like a very comfortable leader in the back row.
Sophie Crawford Sophie Crawford 6'1" | S Gull Lake | 2024 State MI , S Gull Lake (2024)
Crawford has been a workhorse setter throughout her prep career and now steps into her senior season for Gull Lake. The 6’1” setter is improving in every area of her game. She’s gotten better from the service line, gotten better with her blocking, and better with her defensive play. That’s to go with already strong setting instincts and execution.
Holland DeVries Holland DeVries 5'10" | OH Kalamazoo Christian | 2024 State MI , OH Kalamazoo Christian (2024)
DeVries helped KZoo Christian reach the Division 3 final this fall and has had an impressive club season where she’s stepped into a clear leader. Her offensive skillset was already top notch, but her knack for being in the right place at the right time is hard to match. DeVries is very light on her feet and engaged, which allows her to come through with some incredible digs that other outsides wouldn’t make.
Drew Glaser Drew Glaser 6'1" | OH Edwardsburg | 2024 State MI , OH Edwardsburg (2025)
Glaser is a 6’1” hitter that can play anywhere along the net and be successful. She doesn’t look like the quickest player on film, yet manages to cover a lot of space quickly because she has no wasted movement. Glaser brings a lot of power, but has a nice mix of shots and arm angles. Glaser shows stretches where she can be absolutely dominant.
Brealyn Lasky Brealyn Lasky 5'6" | S Bronson | 2024 State MI , S Bronson (2024)
Lasky has the family lineage of being a high IQ volleyball talent and a natural leader. She’s someone the coaching staff can put full trust in to get the team right and also play at a high level herself. Lasky makes great decisions and has great touch on her sets and she’s as good of a communicator as you will find.
Anya Rankin Anya Rankin 5'8" | OH Lakeview | 2025 MI , OH Lakeview (2025)
Rankin is a very explosive outside with laser-focus on the court. At 5’7”, she can jump out of the building and has a great first step on her attacks. Ranking generates a lot of power and can take solid swings out of the back row. She’s working hard to be a complete player and is quickly working her way up as a top outside hitter throughout the state.
Jenna Southland Jenna Southland 6'1" | MB Three Rivers | 2024 State MI , MH Three Rivers (2024)
Southland is a potential 500-kill, 100-block talent at Three Rivers. She just narrowly missed that impressive stat in 2022, but has shown a lot of growth year-to-year. Southland is a great finisher, hitting .321 last season while also bringing underrated defensive skills to the court as a 6’2” middle. Southland is going to be a handful for teams to game plan against.
