The Nebraska Stock Up Showcase aims to serve several different purposes. Of course, the primary goal is to provide another competitive environment for athletes to demonstrate their skills and pick up new techniques. This is especially important as we find ourselves in the heart of the offseason with high school ball quickly approaching.
This is also a chance for us to discover new names, update existing scouting reports, and get a feel for the region’s up-and-coming talent pool. Nebraska athletes are about to put on a show for this event, and we can’t wait to cover it all. Athlete exposure is the driving force behind it all!
So, let’s get you primed for this Stock Up Showcase. I have the entry list for this one, and there are a lot of different angles to discuss.
Here’s a sneak peek.
Club Representation
I’m immediately taken aback by the variety of clubs represented at the Stock Up Showcase.
River City Jrs will bring a lot to the fold in La Vista. I count 11 athletes repping River City at this event, with many of those athletes competing for the same team. That familiarity will offer an interesting dynamic at the showcase, especially if some of these teammates end up facing off on opposite sides of the net.
VCNebraska ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”] is another big player here, and the magic number is 11 for this group, too. I’m thrilled to see all these Lincoln-area prospects making the I-80 trip to La Vista along with me. VCNebraska ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”] showed a lot of depth this year, and that should be a prevailing theme at the showcase. It’s also been a busy stretch for this club between AAU and USAV trips, so the grind just never stops.
Speaking of depth, Premier Nebraska has nine showcase participants on its docket with almost as many different teams represented among those nine. It’s a testament to the wide expanse of talent in that gym with multiple age groups going four-deep.
Nebraska Elite is right in lockstep with Premier for the volume of showcase entries. There is also some good geographical variety among those Elite athletes, which will become more apparent in our next section.
Several more clubs appear multiple times on the list, including Banzai, Club Legacy, Nebraska ONE , Nebraska Juniors, and South Central. All of these groups will factor heavily in our post-event features as we aim to bring under-the-radar talent into the spotlight.
High School Variety
Let’s approach this from a high school perspective. After all, the season is only about a month away.
Unsurprisingly, the Papio schools will get a good run at the La Vista showcase. In fact, we effectively have an even split between Papio and Papio South at this one. I remain fascinated by the push and pull between these two with many of these athletes joining forces on the club side.
More Omaha-area high schools join the mix. Gretna gets a trio, and the newly minted Gretna East is even mentioned on our list. Elkhorn South is a popular participant with four entries, while Elkhorn North gets one of its own. Millard South has a pair making the trip, and Millard West gets in the action alongside Millard North.
We discussed VCNebraska ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”] and Nebraska ONE in the prior section, so it should be no surprise to see some Star City high school powerhouses on the entry list. Lincoln Southwest has five athletes hitting the road after the team reached the Class A semifinals a year ago. Lincoln Pius X is another notable Capitol City torchbearer.
And what about the small towns? We have plenty of those. Many will recognize the names of rural schools that always trot out big-time talent. These include Nebraska Christian, Adams Central, Wilber-Clatonia, Diller-Odell, Blair, Crete, BDS, and Wauneta-Palisade.
Classes, Positions, and Everything in Between
A few more trends are worth addressing here.
We have everything from 2024s to 2027s for this one. Unique storylines define each of these classes, too. 2024s are still finding their fit at the next level, evidenced by the recent commitments in the Cornhusker State. The Class of 2025 is just starting its recruiting journey, and the 2026s are next in line. 2025s and 2026s therefore make up the bulk of the showcase entrants. Meanwhile, a handful of 2027s are entering the spotlight. These freshmen-to-be will give us a first look at the future of prep volleyball. What a venue to make a first impression.
I’m also pleased with the positional variety we’ll see in La Vista. Showcases typically organize drills by position group, and this event should have some lively courts with a lot of athletes. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, this preview is just the beginning of our showcase experience. Be on the lookout for a full slate of post-event features and scouting reports that aim to bring Nebraska’s best young talent to the forefront.
See you there.
