One of the best things about every new season, what faces emerge?
We see it every season, an impact freshman or rookie off the bench steps onto the court and takes control. Who will that be in the freshman class? The class of 2027 is already shaping up to be a really fiery one.
Let’s take a look at five freshman who will make huge waves in 2023.
Brenna Mirovsky Brenna Mirovsky 5'7" | S Oxford | 2027 MI – Oxford
While Oxford loses one powerhouse player in Rachel Townsend (Saginaw Valley). The Wildcats bring in a young pup full of potential and power to fill the gap and then some. Brenna Mirovsky Brenna Mirovsky 5'7" | S Oxford | 2027 MI is a big time utility player already in her young career. A setter on the usual, this player is developing a nice range of shots as an attacker too. It’s hard to put her in just one position. Mirovsky has been doing a little bit of both for Oxford thus far in her rookie campaign and doing really well.

Isabelle Lawhorn Isabelle Lawhorn 6'0" | MB Lake Orion | 2027 MI – Lake Orion
Speaking of players doing a little bit of everything. It looks like, what was once a middle blocker, is beginning to transition beautifully to the pins. Isabelle Lawhorn Isabelle Lawhorn 6'0" | MB Lake Orion | 2027 MI has prepped primarily as a middle the last few years. To start her high school career, she is looking to do some serious damage along the pins for Lake Orion. Just like older sisters Nina Horning (Cincinnati) and Hannah Murdock (MSU/GVSU), Lawhorn looks to the best to ever do it.

Riley Loehfelm Riley Loehfelm 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2027 MI – Forest Hills Northern
Leaving no room to question who will fill in the absence of last year’s all-star, Kenned Louisell (High Point). The answer is Riley Loehfelm Riley Loehfelm 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2027 MI . While a team with some big senior guns, Loehfelm comes into her rookie season with a lot of high level experience already and great leadership to follow from. In opening weekend play, Loehfelm put away nearly 20 kills against some of the best the state has to offer.
Makayla Naves Makayla Naves 5'7" | DS/L Grand Blanc | 2027 MI – Grand Blanc
I was curious to see where this player would end up on the court. A versatile athlete, and one that I have gotten eyes on from a very early age, Makayla Naves Makayla Naves 5'7" | DS/L Grand Blanc | 2027 MI has about every tool in the tool box. The leaping abilities to kill a ball, the hands to put the ball up, Grand Blanc looks to this freshman to run their back court. Naves has a great read on the opponents attack early on. That, paired with her natural athletic abilites, is a recipe for success.
