Teams are beginning to take shape and make some waves. Undefeated streaks still remain and milestones are being reached. It’s the best time of the year!

Bedford Remains Undefeated with Tournament Win in Battle Creek
The kicking mules are off to a hot start in 2023. After what was a disappointing bow out of the 2022 postseason tournament, losing in the district finals to Woodhaven Brownstown. Bedford is on a roll to start off 2023. Going undefeated in their first tournament up in Leland, Michigan. The Mules took on some top-tier division 2 through 4 teams.
It looks Bedford is keeping the hot streak alive. Over to the Cereal City, Battle Creek, the red and white improve from a 6-0 start, to now, 12-0. Bedford will take down ranked opponents, such as division 4 Mendon and others to take the crown. Bedford is led by Junior MB Victoria Gray Victoria Gray 6'2" | MB Bedford | 2025 State #100 Nation MI , OH Alivia Brown Alivia Brown 5'9" | DS/L Temperance Bedford | 2025 State MI and OH Macy Madalinski. The trio of attackers had a really superb connection throughout the weekend in Battle Creek.
North Branch wins Notre Dame Prep Tournament (Only One Set Dropped)
It is just another day at the office for North Branch. Doing what they do best, on enemy territory, the Broncos brought home the Notre Dame Prep invitational crown on Saturday. This crew seemed quite unfazed throughout the tournament. In pool play, the Broncos would look to be smooth sailing. While splitting with Dewitt, 29-31 in the first set. The next, would go the way of 25-14 in favor of the Broncos. After this, it was all Broncos to the championship. After cruising past division 3 ranked SMCC & BWAC for Imlay City, the Broncos would be tested against Marysville. Ultimately taking the title.
Clara Gyomory Clara Gyomory 5'10" | RS North Branch | 2024 State MI currently leads this squad in offense with under 4 kills per set, meanwhile L Hailey Green Hailey Green 5'1" | DS/L North Branch | 2024 State MI man’s the backcourt with under 4 digs a set.
Avery Weslow Avery Weslow 5'11" | OH Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI Bats a 1,000 (x2) this Weekend
2023 has been a real good year for this outside hitter. Coming into the high school season with a lot of championship experience, helping FaR Out to a National Title at Emperor’s Cup and a top 5 finish at AAU nationals, Avery Weslow Avery Weslow 5'11" | OH Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI is firing on all cylinders this fall. This weekend saw Weslow surpass not one, but TWO huge career milestones. It’s a rarity to see a player as complete as this one and to achieve both accomplishments. This is a testament to this player and her talent. Crossing the 1,000 kill mark, Weslow also passed the 1,000 dig mark this past weekend.
On the weekend, Weslow put up 63 kills on a .300 hit percentage while notching 32 digs.

Forest Hills Northern Takes Barn Burner from Jenison to win WMV Invite
Make that a two peat! For the second year in a row, Forest Hills Northern brings home the WMVOA title. In a match that went the distance, the championship would be decided in a three set brawl. This included a decisive set going overtime, 19-17 in favor of the Huskies.
Along the way, Forest Hills Northern toppled over Coopersville, GR Catholic Central, and Holland Christian. The Huskies would be led by their two senior leaders, MB Kendall Hopewell Kendall Hopewell 6'1" | MB Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State #193 Nation MI and OH Elana Erickson Elana Erickson 5'10" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State #79 Nation MI . The two combined for well over 100 kills, hitting a .330 efficiency on the day. Erickson would also add on a really impressive day in the back Court, passing a 2.53. Sophomore setter, Lexi Stotenbur, had another impressive outing running the offense with over 130 assist en route to the title.
Jenison would have a great day. Going for a 5-1 record, the Cats are looking really good. Karis Chatfield Karis Chatfield 5'11" | OH Jenison | 2026 State MI and Aubrey Johnson Aubrey Johnson 6'1" | OH Jenison | 2024 State MI combined for close to 20 kills in the title game.
Grand Rapids Christian Back on Top After Rockford Invitational Win
Grand Rapids Christian may have fallen under the radar after an impressive run these last several years in 2022. However, look no further, the Eagles are back. In dominating fashion over the weekend, at the Rockford tournament, GRC brought down the house and took down some big time names on the way. Going home with a pair of victories over Division I ranked teams, Rockford and Lowell, they would also take down Division 2 foe in top ranked Lakewood. Alongside a victory over Allendale, this improves the Eagles record to a 10-2 start.
This is a young squad for the powerhouse program. Led by freshman OH Grace Goodyke Grace Goodyke 6'1" | OH Grand Rapids Christian | 2027 State MI , this offense is well balanced and very efficient. The Eagles are currently attacking at 11.5 kills per set on a crazy .280 hit percentage. From the front court, to the back, they’re just as good. The defense, led by L Madison Peal Madison Peal 5'8" | DS/L Grand Rapids Christian | 2025 State MI , averages just under 15 digs per set.
Despite the loss to Grand Rapids Christian in the final game of the day, Lowell, too, looks to be on the come back after a really good ride from 2019 to 2021. Taking down D2 ranked Lakewood and add on a pair of wins over Mattawan and East Kentwood. The Red Arrow had a great outing. They are led by basketball superstar, senior MB Piper Risdon Piper Risdon 5'11" | MB Lowell | 2024 State MI (Vermont-Basketball). Averaging a whopping 5 kills per set on the season, Risdon crushed in 49 kills on the weekend. Sr Oh Brax Baker followed up with 30 kills and So S Rylie Barriger Rylie Barriger 5'7" | S Lowell | 2026 State MI averaged 12.8 sets on the day.
