Shawnee Heights lost nine seniors from last season’s team and will need members of the sophomore and freshman classes to step up and play multiple varsity sets during the 2023 season.
Prep Dig attended the practice and was impressed by the young talent working out in Tecumseh.
Here is a look at four of the athletes who should get considerable attention during the season.
Kaydence Torrez Kaydence Torrez 6'1" | MB Shawnee Heights | 2025 State KS , 6’2”, MH, ‘25
Torrez is a solid prospect. She has a big reach and can jump. She makes solid passes and adjusts well to the ball in the air when sets are off. She has a nice swing and plenty of time to continue to improve. She could elevate her recruiting status by adding some upper-body strength.
Cianna Graves, 5’11”, OH/RS, ‘26
Graves is an athlete who looks like she has never missed a day in the weight room. She is an absolute beast who also wrestles and plays softball. She can really hit the ball and has a nice vertical. Graves is still really raw on the court, but if she dedicated herself to volleyball could be a DI or DII talent. I am not sure I have seen a player with stronger legs before. Coaches will have to see which sport she decides to commit to. I would not hesitate to recommend her to college volleyball coaches all over the state.
Reinna Vega, 6’0”, MH, ‘26
Vega might have the best volleyball skills of this group for this report. She has a big reach and communicates well on the court. She has a smooth approach to the net and will play club ball with the Topeka Elite. Her focus is on playing college volleyball and has multiple seasons to continue to evolve her game.
Kaylyn Jordan, 5’4”, DS, ‘24
Jordan will be the leader of this team. She is very coachable and works hard. She was taking charge of things on the court during warm-ups and stretches. On a team short on experience, she will be leaned on to help the Thunderbirds in rallies that might not be going their way. She is dedicated to the game and appears to me to be a solid NAIA prospect.
