District 5 (listed in seed order) @ Truman High School
Blue Springs South, Grain Valley, Rock Bridge, Hickman, Blue Springs, Truman, Fort Osage, Smith-Cotton
Blue Springs South will be the top seed after a regular season that saw them go 20-9. Jaelynn Tunley Jaelynn Tunley 5'9" | OH Blue Springs South | 2025 State MO led the offense this fall with just over 3 1/2 kills per set. Abby Boyd showed her skills in the back row to the tune of just under 5 digs per set. Grain Valley as the second seed will be in the mix for a district title. They come in 18-9 on the year. They did get swept by South earlier in the season and will work through the rounds to redeem that defeat. Allison Koepkey and Brooklyn Slater pace the two-setter offense. Third-seed Rock Bridge and fourth-seed Hickman make the trip down I-70. Rock Bridge is on a bit of a rebuild after a strong couple of seasons and stands 14-15. Hickman on the other hand is 28-6 and winner of three straight. Kenedi Canty has been clutch in the middle with 82 blocks.
Blue Springs hopes to get out of the quarterfinal from the fifth seed. They’ve had a tough season but also played one of the tougher schedules in the state. Truman, Fort Osage, and Smith-Cotton will round out the district. We expect chalk to occur through the quarterfinal round. From there, Blue Springs South and Hickman could be an interesting match. It’s one of those things where I say South’s losses are better than Hickman’s, meaning competition was tougher and they held their own against the Aquinas’, Liberty North’s, and Lee’s Summit West of the world. Jaguars for the win. We also like Grain Valley to take down Rock Bridge in the other semi-final.
Championship: As noted, Blue Springs South won in three earlier in the season. Grain Valley has gotten much better since then, but so has South. BSS captures the district.
