Maisie Wong | 2024 | S | Branham High School
Maisie Wong uses mostly hands and legs to get the ball when it is called to go. Additionally, she employs a shoulder shrug to demonstrate impressive shoulder strength to push the ball out to the left antenna. When doing this, it can be hard to read. Two more attributes to her setting game are a spin sets and a right hand tip over the net. When serving, she puts in a serve the drops quickly. When blocking, Wong sets up a well located block to help her middle block with ease.
Alisha Verdejo | 5’6″ | 2024 | S | Monache High School
An athlete that plays to the whistle like Alisha Verdejo will give her team opportunities they otherwise might not have had. When setting, she uses her whole body to get the set to the intended target. Additionally, she has strength that allows her to move backward while setting forward. Verdejo always keeps her eye on the ball. Whether the pass is on or off the net, she finds a consistent location from the net to set her hitters.
Gill Gursimran | 5’4″ | 2024 | S | Buchanan High School
To make the long set, like Gill Gursimaran does, takes regular practice with many repetitions. What is impressive is that she will make the long set to either antenna. When she backsets, she turns and faces the opponent. This allows her to see where that set behind her is going for the entire distance of the set. She follows the ball on defense and is always ready to make a play whether immediately or off the block. In 32 matches this season, Gursimran has recorded double digit assists.
Melanie Fang | 2024 | S | Sanger West High School
A miraculous defender, Melanie Fang, also hustles on the court. This is likely why she is such spectacular defender. Her outstretched one armed saves are really motivating and uplifting for her teammates. Additionally, her teammates follow her well as they are seemingly always there to cover the hitter. When setting, she gets the ball and then releases right away. Another attribute to her setting game is an excellent setter tip to the deep left back corner.
