We have been watching the 2025 class very closely throughout the entire high school and new club season. A lot of the analysis has come from watching these players in person and also by watching the amazing footage that has been uploaded to everyone’s recruiting profiles. We have been talking to a lot of coaches across the country and this class is littered with college prospects. The following players showed us all that they deserved to move up in the rankings due to their individual performances.
Manaia Ogbechie Manaia Ogbechie 6'3" | MB Oaks Christian | 2025 State #123 Nation CA [2025] 6-3 Middle (HS: Oaks Christian/Club: Sports Academy/Verbal: Northwestern)
Manaia has moved up the rankings in a big way. She is now currently ranked as the 14th best overall player and third best middle in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Oaks Christian High School and for the Sports Academy volleyball club program. Miss Ogbechie is a phenomenal talent who is also part of the National Team Development Program by USA Volleyball. Her length is what stands out to most when they first notice her on the court, but she is super impressive above the net. She does not need much space in order to transition from the block and still get up off of the ground in a hurry to attack quicks. She utilizes some awesome lower body muscles to get this done. I am not sure that there is a player with more natural raw power than Manaia. I love how explosive she is in every aspect of the middle position. You can classify her as a true shut down blocker at the net because of the way she presses over and seals the net from the attackers. Recently she has made her college choice and will be attending Norhtwestern University in a few years. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be an immediate impact player once she steps foot on campus in two years. Please help us congratulate her on the wonderful achievement of being named as one of the best volleyball players in the state of California in the 2025 class.
Kayla Ostovar Kayla Ostovar 5'6" | DS/L Mater Dei | 2025 State CA [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Mater Dei/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kayla has moved up the State Rankings. She is now ranked as the 22nd best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Mater Dei High School and for the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball club program. I have been privileged to have watched her over the last few years and I am very impressed with her consistent production in the libero position. She truly has the speed and quickness to play at the next level. There is some amazing laser focus from her eyes as she is fixated on the ball and anticipates its every move and angle coming off of her opponents hands. I love her lower body dexterity, as she is able to dig well to both sides laterally outside of her body. Her heels rarely hit the floor which keep her super bouncy and able to make very fast reactions to the ball if they deflect off of the block. If you have not seen her yet and are in need of a fast-paced and hard nosed defender, I strongly encourage you to give her a look this club season. She has truly earned her place in the State Rankings with continued consistent high-level play. Please help us congratulate her on being named the best players in the State of California.
Ashby Zubchevich Ashby Zubchevich 6'0" | OH La Canada | 2025 State CA [2025] 6-0 Outside (HS: La Canada/Club: City Volleyball/Verbal: Duke University)
Ashby has made a monster move up the rankings in this update! She is now currently ranked as the 30th best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. That is a 15 spot difference from the last update. She plays at La Canada High School and also for the City Volleyball club program. Here is a refresher of my latest article on her, “Miss Zubchevich is the player with the golden right arm who an do so much on the court. She is the “go-to” hitter on a fantastic volleyball squad who scores at a very high clip. I was able to watch this young lady in person a few times at national qualifiers against some amazing competition and she rose to the challenge each time. Offensively she takes a picturesque approach and has an arm swing that cuts through the air so beautifully. Her squad truly understands her capabilities and uses her when she is the back row as a viable part of their offensive scheme in which she delivers great results What makes her so deadly on the court is how versatile of a hitter she is. Ashby is able to come inside for second tempo sets like she is a middle and her timing is impeccable during those routes. The opposing blockers do not see it coming and she slashes through splits in the block to score at will. She is a member of the famed ten foot club, which means she can touch over ten feet high in the air with her approach vertical.” Not much has changed except she has gotten even better from this school year! I watched her make the All-Tournament team in person this past summer at USA Junior Nationals and it was truly warranted. Her junior year at school saw her more than double her kill total from last season. This spells doom for anyone that has to match up with her this club season. She is the type of hitter that can’t be stopped as she will earn her kills one way or another. Please help us congratulate her on earning a big jump in our prestigious State Rankings of California volleyball players.
