I traveled to Olathe for the Winter Warmup Challenge which took place at the Homefield Courts.
I watched three matches involving teams in the 15 Premier Pools.
The first match I scouted was a two-set win by PVA 15-2 over the Building Champions 14-1 squad. Building Champions is a brand-new club made up of players from the Kansas City Metro area on both sides of the state.
Here is a look at four players who caught my eye on the PVA 15-2 club during the Pool B play.
Lily Fitzpatrick, 6’1”, MH, Blue Valley, ‘27
Fitzpatrick is the tallest and most physical prospect on this club team. She finished with two kills, one dig, and one ace in the win over Building Champions 14-1. She moves well and has a big reach.
Callie Tess, 5’6”, S, Blue Valley Southwest, ‘27
Tess was an enjoyable prospect to watch. She has a great serve that is loaded with hot sauce on it. She finished with a team-high eight aces in the win. She sets a consistent ball and communicates well on the floor.
Jessica Howe, 5’5”, OH/DS, Blue Valley Southwest ‘27
Howe was the most poised and disciplined player on the court for PVA 15-2. She finished the match with four serve receptions, two digs, and two aces. She is a smart player and was the most consistent passer in the match against Building Champions. It will be interesting what position she ends up playing as her high school career moves forward.
Ireland Nelson, 5’4”, L/DS, St. Thomas Aquinas, ‘27
Nelson had a solid two sets for PVA . She finished with three serve receptions, two digs, and one aces. She has a solid frame and made good first passes.
