Here are some teams and players who definitely are turning heads due to their play. This series will highlight some players who we have seen in person and we are adding to our list to watch this season.
Oklahoma Charge 15 UA
Not only did this awesome squad just go undefeated at the Redlands Rendezvous a few weeks ago, but they did it while playing up an age group in the 16 Open division. They ran through the field and didn’t lose a single set on their way to the championship. The star of the show is Stella Wishon Stella Wishon 6'2" | OH Community Christian | 2027 OK . The six foot two stud is in a league of her own on the volleyball court. Her offensive output is the number one reason why she is one of the best players in her grad class. Right side Olivia Carter is another one to watch on this talented team. She is a blocking machine and can provide a lot of heat with her right arm. This team will be hard to beat with the ability to spread the ball from pin to pin so easily. Libero McKenzie Smith does a great job keeping this team in system in the back row. I like how disciplined she is keeping her posture throughout the entire play. There are not a lot of balls that fall near her zone. Setter Amelia Mullen Amelia Mullen 5'10" | S Casady | 2027 OK is a joy to watch as she battles for her squad. She uses her jump well to save balls that are near the net and also to jump set her attackers and help provide one on one situations. Middle Arielle Yapi is a solid defender and is very active patrolling the net. She moves very well laterally and uses impeccable timing to slow down would-be scorers. I will be watching her very closely. Outside hitter Sophie Payne Sophie Payne 5'11" | OH Piedmont | 2027 OK is a big reason why this team is so tough to slow down. She is extremely athletic on the left side out of serve receive and also at the net. Her movement on the court looks like a seasoned veteran already at this young age. This team will make some serious waves in their region and you can expect them to qualify for nationals this year.
Oklahoma Charge 16 UA
Coming in second at the Redlands Rendezvous tournament earlier this month, they are on a roll so far this year. There are some serious players on this team who can play at a very high level. Setter Pierson Smith Pierson Smith 5'11" | S Community Christian | 2026 OK is someone who turns heads with her ability to play the position. She is super smooth with her setter dump and it always catches the opposition off-guard. It either scores a point or gets them out of system to send a free ball. Her hands and posture are very deceptive when delivering it quickly to the other side of the net. Outside Miley Myers has a whip of an arm that can deliver the ball with a lightning quick pace on the left side. She uses a very fast approach to catch up to the quick tempo at which this team runs its outside set. Libero Sophia Devlin is someone that everyone should watch out for. She has the ball control and attitude that you want in a back row floor general. Right side Valyn Donahoo Valyn Donahoo 6'2" | OH Norman North | 2026 OK is a solid option for this team to spread the attack with. As an attacker and blocker, she is long and touches very high to battle at the net. Outside hitter Emery Williams can bring the heat when needed as well. I like how she moves on the court and is always ready to receive the ball. This squad will be fun to watch as the season progresses, so stay tuned for more on them.
