Continue ReadingMichigan had a lot of good performances during the Mideast Qualifier last weekend in Indianapolis, but one of the best collective outings from the state came in the 16 Select Division.
A total of five clubs landed in the top 10 in the division. That was led by L2 163, which placed third.
Michigan Elite 16 National West finished fifth, while Dead Frog 16 Black, Dynamite Adidas 16-1 and Force 16 Adidas Select each placed ninth.
Here’s a look at some of the 16U players that shined in the 16 Select Division.
Lauren Johnston, L/DS L2 163
L2’s run to the semifinals was aided by its defensive play, as Johnston was in a zone throughout the weekend. She piled up the dig numbers, hitting double digits in most matches while keeping the offense in-system. Johnston also had a handful of key serving rallies for L2.
Zoe Hill, OH L2 163
L2 had some good hitting performances on the weekend, with Kenadi Frederick coming through with some impressive attacks as well, but Hill showed a lot of explosiveness and ability to work through blockers. Standing just 5’6”, Hill has impressive elevation and good arm speed to deliver a lot of power on her attacks.
Cree Hollier Cree Hollier 5'8" | MB Mercy | 2026 State MI , MH Michigan Elite 16 National West
Hollier remains one of the most eye-catching middles in the Class of 2026. She doesn’t have the length of many of her peers, but she can jump out of the building and she swings with violent intentions. Hollier’s finishing rate is very high, as defenses can’t contend with her power and speed.
Lucy Stoll Lucy Stoll 5'7" | S South Lyon | 2026 State MI , S/RS Michigan Elite 16 National West
Collier was able to shine due in part to her setters, with Stoll being one of them. Stoll had great connections with Hollier and her outsides, putting up a smooth set to give her hitters a ball to get aggressive with. As a hitter, Stoll read the floor really well and scored consistently with offspeed attacks.
Isabella Crossley, MH Dead Frog 16 Black
Dead Frog had a balanced effort throughout the weekend, but Crossley showed a lot of good things at the middle position. She was a very effective blocker, picking up a number of blocks for points while slowing down dozens of other attacks. Offensively, when the ball came her way, Crossley was efficient and impactful. She put down the ball at sharp angles and shifted momentum to her team.
Natalie Sebastian, MH Dynamite Adidas 16-1
Another middle that looked impressive last weekend was Sebastian. She had a lot of spring in her step and got on some real hot streaks. Working with two different setters, Sebastian was still on point, hitting quick sets for easy points, as the opponents had to chance to stop her. Sebastian was also relentless with her blocking efforts and made sure she had an impact on nearly every point.
Natalie West, OH Force 16 Adidas Select
West was an absolute kills machine last weekend. She was hitting double-digit kills in nearly every match and doing it everywhere on the court. West could terminate from either pin, the middle, or the back row. She stayed patient with her attacks and allowed the ball to come to her. West adjusts well and mixes up her swing speeds and angles, making sure she challenges the defense with each opportunity.
