As the bid season rapidly comes to a close this is one remaining shot for teams to earn their spot in the girls’ national championships this summer. Numerous teams from Missouri and Kansas hopped on a flight to compete.
Northeast Qualifier
15 Liberty
Mavs KC 15-2 earned their first bid of the year by capturing the Liberty division. They went a perfect 11-0, only dropping two sets. That’s not to say they didn’t have any tough matches with a couple of 26-24 sets in the gold bracket. Their opening day saw them whip through the first two matches before they needed a 28-26 first-set win in their final pool play match over Rocky Elite 15. The second day saw another undefeated journey through pool play completed by a crossover match win to earn a spot in the gold bracket. A win over Wave 15 in the championship gave them the title and made them the third Mavs team to qualify for nationals joining Mavs KC 15-1 and 816 Mavs 15-1. Though this Mavs is based in Kansas, they feature Missouri player Alexandria Conner of Notre Dame De Sion.
816 Mavs KC 15-2 finished in fifth place.
15 Open
Rockwood Thunder 15 Elite, who already holds an open bid had another good qualifier performance going 7-1 and finishing in fourth. Fellow St. Louis and Gateway representative HPSTL 15 Royal had a 6-1 showing, good for fifth.
14 Open
With not as much noise coming out of Philadelphia I will break from my norm to shout out Mavs KC 14-1 who earned an open bid with a third-place finish in the 14 Open division.
Lonestar Qualifier
We didn’t have any bids return to the state from Lonestar but there was some good play to highlight. PVA 15 Elite, who already owns an open bid went 7-1, losing in the last day gold pool. In 16 American, 816 Mavs 16-2 were hot, racking up wins in their first eight matches before being upended by Texas Fierce in the gold bracket. Staying in the 16s, 417 Juniors 16 Elite went 7-1 in the Liberty division but fell short of a bid losing in their first bracket match.
