15 Liberty
A Heart of America and a Gateway team emerged from the smoke to capture Liberty bids. The Manhattan Mayhem went 10-0 to capture the gold ball. They were 20-3 in set play, which showed their dominance over the three days. Behind them were the runner-ups, Top Notch 15U Elite, and their 8-1 record. They also only dropped three sets in the tournament, two of them just happened to come in the final match.
15 American
417 Columbia 15-1 went through the gauntlet we call the American division unscathed to win the title. They were tested in the semi-final and final match in three sets but came out on top. They became the second team from the HOA region to win the American Division title at a qualifier.
A Few Players…
I had a chance to catch just a little bit of action in the 15s division. In that short time, there were a few players who caught my eye in which I had to stop and make a note.
Riley Stephens – Summit Volleyball 15 National – OH
Stephens showed the ability to score in bunches on the pin for Summit in the match I saw. She was key for the team throughout the weekend as they only dropped one match the whole weekend. Another thing that stood out was her aggressive serving behind the service line.
Paxtyn Scrivener – Summit Volleyball 15 National – Libero
Scrivener was solid defensively in the match I had eyes on in the libero jersey. She passed the balls to location and was quick to spots on defense. She was also pretty good in second-ball sets to the hitters.
Anna Staiger – Performance Volleyball 15-1 – Libero
The Performance libero is another defender who I thought was lights out in the action I witnessed. Her floor presence and leadership were on display. Her command of the back row and ability to lead was exemplary of what you look for in a floor leader.
Hailey Yeager – HP South Titanium 15-1 – Libero
Yeager will round out my trio of liberos who I thought played well on the final day of Show Me. She was all over the floor in the two matches I got glimpses of at Hyvee Arena. She is quick and has tremendous speed.
