The USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championships represents the final outing for many of the nation’s club competitors. Nebraska is well represented in this group, and one particular team has stood out heading into the event’s final day.
VCNebraska 18 Elite is hunting for the 18 National crown after a dominant run through the division. Let’s recap that journey–plus all of the other notable 18s squads from the Great Plains Region.
18 Elite Among the Elite
Might as well go out swinging.
VCNebraska 18 Elite is bringing some of its best volleyball to the season’s final event on the USAV circuit. This isn’t just the end of a season, either. It’s the last moments in the club spotlight, and 18 Elite is determined to bring the excitement.
This star-studded squad earned an 18 National bid through the Great Plains Region and has taken the division by storm. 18 Elite rolled to a 3-0 opening-day record with only one set loss along the way. Wins over MDJRS, OP2, and USANY positioned the team well for “Separation Saturday.”
18 Elite found that separation on Day 2. A victory over Revolution PGH set up an epic clash of 4-0 teams–and the top two seeds in the pool. VCNebraska and NKYVC faced off and fittingly went to a third set. 18 Elite found the late edge and claimed a 15-13 triumph to win its pool. 5-0.
Round 2 doesn’t end there, however. The challenge round beckoned, and VCNebraska was slotted into a three-team bracket for a spot in the quarterfinals. A first-place pool finish granted 18 Elite the advantage of a first-round bye, so it simply needed one more win to reach the Sunday gauntlet.
Cue up another dominant performance. 18 Elite dispatched Colorado Juniors in straight sets to cap off a 6-0 start. This Great Plains Region frontrunner is the #7 seed in Sunday morning’s group and will face OT 18 J Stephen in the opener. All eyes are on Baltimore.
More News and Notes
Here’s where you can find all the other Great Plains Region teams in Baltimore:
- VCNebraska 18 Black was right on the cusp of joining its 18 Elite counterparts in the Gold madness. The team finished second in its Round 2 pool after starting the event 3-0. A challenge round defeat might have halted that momentum for a moment, but 18 Black will be a frontrunner in 18 American’s Silver A bracket.
- Banzai VBC 18 Select joins 18 Black in the 18 American division. We’ll see Banzai in Flight 5A for Sunday’s action. This team features a lot of athletes who are jumping an age group (or two) to bolster the 18s squad. What an opportunity.
- We find Premier Nebraska 18 Gold in the ever-competitive 18 Open division. This talented team will finish in Flight 1B, a group with plenty of Midwest representation. Sunday’s first opponent: Six Pack 18 from the Iowa Region. Rivalry matchup.
- Premier gets another entry with Premier Nebraska 18 Black battling in 18 USA. We saw a pair of pool victories from 18 Black in Round 1, setting up a trip to Flight 1B for the big finale. Mizuno Club North 18Ang awaits.
