Southern Michigan is just overloaded with talent, but that doesn’t mean the north doesn’t have players worthy of equal recognition.
In the Class of 2025, there’s seven in particular that have made a name for themselves heading into their final year of play at the high school level.
Players listed alphabetically
Jordyn Anderson Jordyn Anderson 6'3" | S Ludington | 2025 State MI , S Ludington/Inside Out
A 6’3” setter that can play a very fast pace, it’s no surprise that Anderson has already been nabbed up by Nebraska-Omaha to player her college volleyball. She’s a complete player that also can impact the game with her hitting, blocking, serving and passing. Anderson is set to show she’s among the best setters in the state this fall.
Allison Bjorn Allison Bjorn 6'0" | MB Calumet | 2025 State MI , MH Calumet
The 6-foot middle was one of the most dominant players in the Upper Peninsula last fall. Bjorn anticipates the ball well and comes down with a lot of power. She was unmatched against most blockers, able to easily power through. Her game would translate well in the Lower Peninsula as well, though. Bjorn’s athleticism and explosiveness at the net is among the best anywhere.
Elyse Heffner Elyse Heffner 6'1" | MB Traverse City Central | 2025 State MI , MH TC Central/FaR Out
Heffner is definitely one of the top prospects in Northern Michigan. She’s put herself on the map as being one of the most productive hitters in the state. She can play the outside or the middle and finds ways to put home points at either spot. She’s a gamer that is going to battle hard and win those 50-50 balls at the net. She’s already committed to South Alabama.
Abby Hicks Abby Hicks 5'4" | S Leland Public School | 2025 State MI , S Leland/Northshore
Hicks got to work with a lot of size this year as part of the Leland offense, but she made the most of it and took a lot of strides as a setter. She worked an offense where most of the team was on the floor throughout the match, so she had to balance swings and did a great job of knowing when to find the fresh hitter.
Tessah Konas Tessah Konas 5'8" | S Traverse City St. Francis | 2025 State MI , S TC St. Francis/Northshore
Konas was one of the two setters for St. Francis this fall as they went to the D3 final. She makes an effort to really mix up her locations and get all the hitters involved. She can keep the tempo up, while also being a reliable defensive option. Konas also has a challenging serve that has good velocity.
Maddy Kreider Maddy Kreider 5'8" | S Kingsford | 2025 State MI , S Kingsford/FC Elite
Kreider is probably more on the Wisconsin radar than the Michigan radar at times, playing in Kingsford. However, she’s one of the hidden gems for this class at setter. She’s able to place the ball really well and draw big swings out of her teammates. Her defense is also a big strength, as she’s very reliable in serve receive.
Avery Nance Avery Nance 5'4" | DS/L Traverse City St. Francis | 2025 State MI , DS/L TC St. Francis/Northshore
Nance was the defensive foundation to help St. Francis reach the D3 final this past fall. She’s a coach’s kid, which means she’s a great leader and plays fundamentally sound. Nance communicates well and wants to make the tough dig to turn a match around. She’s committed to Belmont Abbey.
