Free Report: Surprise Performances From Class 4A and 3A
In this article:
Surprise, Surprise! This report will cure any Halloween Candy Hangover!
The past two days, I featured 48 athletes from Class 4A and 3A State Tournaments played in Hutchinson.
In case you missed them, here are links to the four reports covering the 4A and 3A tournaments.
Before heading home today, I would like to finish up my coverage of that tournament by featuring eight more players from those two tournaments who caught me by surprise.
They are players I either knew very little about, or players I had not seen play this season, or, in the case of at least one athlete, someone who stepped up their game from the last time I had seen her play.
Prep Dig Profiles now exist for the players mentioned in this report. Athletes can claim their FREE profiles by using the link below.
Good luck to all teams still competing for titles at all four locations today, and safe travels to all players, coaches, and parents as they travel home.

Stay tuned this month for continued coverage of the 2025 prep season, and probably some previews of club season, and of course, this year's installments of the “All-Deck Team.”
Kelly Brown Kelly Brown 6'1" | MB/OH Bishop Miege | 2028 KS , 6'1”, MB/OH, Bishop Miege, '28
Brown is a physical prospect with height you can't always find. I did not track her stats in the match against Andale, as I was tracking a handful of other prospects in that match. Yet, she stood out just based on her size and net from presence in a limited role.
Kylee Frazee Kylee Frazee 5'8" | OH/DS/L Rock Creek | 2027 KS , 5'8”, OH/DS, Rock Creek '27
Frazee is a player I saw for the first time during the tournament. She can play on the front and back rows and has quite a bit of versatility in her game. She registered eight digs, four kills, and seven serve receptions in the Mustangs' first match of the tournament.
Olivia Johnson Olivia Johnson 5'7" | DS/L Trinity Academy | 2028 KS , 5'7”, DS/L, Trinity Academy, '28
Johson is a long defensive player who played backrow only for the Knights. She finished with nine digs in Trinity Academy's win over Hesston. She has the size that she could evolve into a six-rotation athlete, or the defensive skills to wear the libero jersey down the road.
Addyson Keller Addyson Keller 5'7" | OH/DS/L Buhler | 2028 KS , 5'7”, OH/DS, Buhler, '28
Buhler's Keller entered the tournament as the Crusaders' leader in aces and kills. She tallied three kills, four digs, and three serve receptions in a loss to McPherson. She was not on my radar before the tournament, but she is now.
Aubrey Mccarn Aubrey Mccarn 5'8" | OH/MB Rock Creek | 2028 State KS , 5'7”, OH, Rock Creek, '28
Mccarn is just a sophomore, but she proved she has the mental toughness of an upperclassman in a loss to Paola. She finished with 10 serve receptions, four digs, four kills, and two blocks for the Mustangs in their tournament-opening loss to Paola.
Kinly Place Kinly Place 5'10" | OH Ellsworth | 2028 KS , 5'10”, OH, Ellsworth, '28
I was impressed by Place's skills and determination for Ellsworth. She kept the Bearcats in the match against Silver Lake on Thursday. She finished that match with 12 digs, six serve receptions, and one block. Place jumps well and doesn't melt in high-pressure situations.
Brynlee Schremmer Brynlee Schremmer 5'8" | RS KS , 5'8”, OH/DS, Hoisington, '29
Schremmer was an athlete I saw play for the first time. The Cardinal freshman has a bright future. She finished with five digs and two kills in the team's Class 3A Tournament Opener against Holton.
Kinley Weber Kinley Weber 5'10" | MB Silver Lake | 2028 State KS , 5'10”, MB, Silver Lake, '28
Weber is ranked No. 43 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. Weber is a physical athlete who can make a difference at the net. She recorded two kills and three digs in the Eagles' win over Ellsworth. I saw her play a match earlier in the season, but she had more of an impact in this match.
