GHSA's 2025 Championship Liberos and Defensive Specialists

Behind every thunderous kill and perfectly timed block, there's a player keeping the ball alive — the libero. These six defensive stars were the steady heartbeat of their state championship teams, bringing hustle, communication, and calm when chaos hit the court. Whether veterans leading their teams to one last title or young athletes rising into stardom, they all proved one truth: championships start with great defense.    Margaux anchored Lovett's defense with poise beyond her years, averaging 2.6 digs per set while boasting one of the state's most consistent serve-receives. Her calm demeanor and flawless technique allowed Lovett's offense to stay in rhythm, even against heavy-hitting opponents. She reads attackers early, positions herself perfectly, and never shies away from big moments. As a junior, her reliability set the foundation for Lovett's championship run — and her return ensures the Lions remain a powerhouse in 2025. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast     A four-year veteran, Ella's leadership in the back row was unmatched. Her ability to control serve-receive and communicate with precision turned defense into instant offense. Averaging 2.0 digs per set, she led by example, keeping Walton composed through tough rotations. As she graduates, Ella leaves behind not only a state title but a legacy of excellence that will guide the next generation of Raider defenders. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast     Ellie's steady presence complemented Ella Cobb perfectly, giving Walton one of the deepest defensive duos in Georgia. She averaged 1.8 digs per set and brought energy and clarity to the floor every time she checked in. Her quick reaction time and ability to read hitters gave Walton an edge in long rallies. Together, she and Cobb formed the defensive backbone that helped the Raiders secure another title in dominant fashion. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast     Just a freshman, Sawyer quickly established herself as one of Marist's most reliable passers. Averaging 1.8 digs per set, she showed exceptional composure for her age and reads the court with natural instinct. Her controlled serve-receive kept the War Eagles in system and gave their setters clean looks all season. With years of development still ahead, Sawyer's future looks incredibly bright — she's already playing like a veteran. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast     Lotus' name became synonymous with consistency this season. Her quick first step and sharp anticipation gave Woodward a defensive anchor that could handle pressure without flinching. Averaging 1.4 digs per set, she brought the spark that helped the War Eagles maintain momentum through long rallies. As only a sophomore, Lotus is already one of the most dependable backcourt players in the state. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast     Camryn's senior season was one for the books — 3.6 digs per set and 74 aces showcase both her defensive dominance and service pressure. She not only kept Morgan County alive in critical points but created scoring opportunities with aggressive serves and perfect placement. Her consistency and leadership transformed the Bulldogs' backcourt into one of the most disciplined in Georgia.
