Luminous Liberos Light Up the Backcourt at the NorCal Exposure

The Exposure Tour at NorCal showcased some high level liberos of the game, highlighting not only their exceptional defensive skills and quickness, but also their court awareness and knowledge of the game. These skilled defensive specialists put on a show of perfectly executed digs, exceptional passes to target, and how to ball out in high pressure moments. Below are some of the ones that stood out from the start and captivated our attention throughout the entire tour. Haggerty showcased some excellent skillfulness in her movements by remaining low and in posture. She routinely created strong angles, allowing her to control her passes and deliver balls expertly to target. Additionally, she proved that she has a strong read on the ball as she anticipated attacks early and positioned herself correctly to make good defensive plays. Her technically sound skills combined with her court awareness make her an upcoming backrow boss to keep tabs on.     Ignacio had a great performance at the NorCal Exposure Tour. This young libero showcased what it clearly means to have quick feet, even quicker reactions, and how to create excellent angles for passes to hit target. Ignacio was routinely delivering pass after pass that were not only easily balls to set, but many times the setter did not have to move at all. The other thing that I appreciate about Ignacio is that her pass height was also consistent. She made her setters' jobs easier on the day. Overall, Ignacio is someone to watch as she continues to grow her skill set.     The faster the game gets, the more Lapuz shines. This libero has excellent, fast feet that allow her to maneuver quickly on the court and get her feet behind the ball. She showcased this as she dropped, shuffled back, and was consistently able to give precise passes off her midline with ease. Lapuz also stays low and knows how to absorb big attacks. She was able to make some great digs on the day due to her technically sound skills and high game IQ.     Alvarez came to the court to play. She brought some major hustle, intensity, and grit to the court, setting the tone for her team's energy. She showcased that she has a strong read on the ball which allows her to anticipate hitters and position herself skillfully. She also has a very quick first step which enables her to cover a ton of the court herself. She was able make several tremendous saves, including impressive one handed digs. Her skills, unrelenting effort, and competitive spirit made her a defensive beast that teams need to succeed.     Nemee is a libero that clearly knows what she is doing. She demonstrated exceptional court awareness, positioning herself exactly where she needed to be. She showcased a strong understanding of how to cover her attackers properly, moving quickly and fluidly to provide expert coverage for her hitters and then recovering quickly herself to be ready for defense. Her focus and dedication to her position kept her from getting caught out of position which allowed her to make big plays throughout the event. Overall, she is a steady and highly impactful libero that is a game changer for defenses.     One of my favorite backcourt beasts on the day was Cardoso. Only a 2030, she is well on her way to being a standout. This young libero is already turning heads on the court with her quickness and excellent court awareness. She consistently positioned herself properly, effectively covering her teammates and anticipating plays. She also demonstrated strong skills in her out of system ball placement and didn't falter in high pressure moments. Additionally, she impressively used her hands to deliver out of system sets and free balls, a skill that many liberos find difficult. Her quickness, court awareness, and elaborate skill set at such a young age makes her an up and coming defensive player to keep tabs on.
