We're back for more.

Our Road to June 15th has featured plenty of unique stops. Even with the days until "showtime" rapidly ticking down, we still have so many more Nebraska 2028s to highlight ahead of the open contact period. So, the beat goes on.

This latest feature series has brought a throwback perspective into the mix. The club season brings a lot of notable names into the fold, but we have to remember the large share of high school stars, too. Nebraska's sophomore standouts lit up the stat sheet last fall and have expanded the talent pool for college recruiters.

Part 1 kicked off the fall chatter, and we're leaning further into the theme today.

Nebraska was loaded with high-efficiency sophomore terminators last fall, and Piening led them all. The Norris middle blocker logged a 0.383 hitting percentage in Year 2 while going two-for-two on Class B state titles. We saw Piening flash her potential in her debut campaign with the Titans, but the following year brought a marked uptick in overall production. Even with a sky-high attacking clip, Piening put down over 200 kills as a leading in-system option. The same narrative has played out with Nebraska ONE 17 Synergy, which will spar for a 17 Open crown in Indianapolis. Norris prep athletes will loom large.

Elkhorn North knows all about lethal middle blockers. The short history of the school has produced a ton of frontcourt game-changers, and Palmer represents the next generation in the Class of 2028. The versatile 'M1' elevated her role in last year's Elkhorn North offense, yielding nearly 300 total kills on a 0.292 average. Like Piening, Palmer made enormous gains between her underclassman years en route to last year's Class B title match. She has proven herself as a go-to slide hitter who can make the Wolves a continuous force in two-hitter rotations. Omaha Fusion's loaded 16s crew has kept Palmer in the spotlight ahead of a postseason trip to GJNC.

Dolliver is built for collegiate competition--no matter which sport she chooses to pursue. This all-state 2028 has followed in her sister's footsteps as a multi-sport trend-setter for Malcolm High School. On the volleyball court, Dolliver's colossal 500-kill season tally lifted the Clippers to the Class C1 semifinals after a monumental upset over Lincoln Lutheran. But, an overview of Dolliver's statistical contributions is not complete without a shoutout to her 20 points per game on the basketball side. This superstar has options.

Ramirez-Rousseau's year-round influence has propelled her up the list of Lincoln-area 2028s to follow. This series needs to address some of the state's shutdown blockers, and Ramirez-Rousseau is an ideal starting point. The Lincoln Pius X middle blocker established a starting foothold with Thunderbolts last fall and immediately paid it off in the box score. Aside from her team-high hitting percentage and explosive offense, Ramirez-Rousseau's 76 total blocks were among the best overall tallies in any class. She was never afraid to square up with the state's top terminators, and that's the perfect prelude to another year with VCNebraska. Ramirez-Rousseau's 16 Elite crew is postseason-bound, and the middle blocker's fearless attitude persists.

We're staying in the blocking ledger for another physical anchor on the big-city scene. Sonntag has made a major impression with an Omaha Duchesne team that rolled out plenty of underclassmen last year. She patrolled the net to the tune of 85 total blocks, aiding one of Nebraska's most productive net defenses. And, meanwhile, Sonntag's kill-per-set average was also a team high among regular starters. Her ability to read setters and align her block has flourished, particularly while competing with Nebraska Elite 16 Alpha against Open-level foes. College recruiters have to be excited about the potential to mold Sonntag's physical gifts into next-level prowess.

VCNebraska has a strong track record with rural prep athletes. Hunnicutt is another shining example who provided the little extra spark to help VCNebraska 16 Black lock up a USAV Nationals berth. The Nebraska Christian signal-caller reacquired the reins last fall, dishing out nine assists per set for the Eagles. She brings ample athleticism to command a 5-1 offense and has upgraded her defense in the right-back area. Hunnicutt is on pace to elevate her stock further while competing for a 16 USA title.

Another state champion enters the chat. Bartunek's influence in the Class C2 race is well documented. This class featured some wild postseason moments, but Bartunek's calming presence kept Freeman focused on the ultimate prize. Her up-tempo distribution, which generated 10.1 assists per set, lifted the Falcons to a long-awaited title triumph in Lincoln. She has been a natural fit for Nebraska ONE 16 Titanium, another team predicated on stable, low-error volleyball.

Ray adds ot the list of small-town outside hitters with eye-popping figures in almost every statistical category. Oakland-Craig is on a multi-year streak of postseason trips with all-around players like Ray paving the way. She chipped in with nearly 400 kills last fall, but Ray's influence didn't wane outside of these final contacts. Her 400 digs rival the state's top liberos, adding to Ray's invaluable presence in the Knights' rotation. Even with O-C graduating some heavy hitters from last year's crew, Ray is eager to uphold the standard that began with the turn of the decade.
