Here are the top 5 players from the state finals who are ready to make this season, their best yet:
Elayna Duprey, a senior middle hitter from Flint Hill (Oakton, VA), starts off our list. She was voted by MaxPreps as the best player in the state of Virginia for the coming season. The uncommitted senior is a dominant hitter and blocker for a division 1 VISAA powerhouse. Her team has won three straight state titles, including a 31-1 campaign in the 2019 season. Elayna is a dual-sport athlete in volleyball and basketball. She was named first-team all-state last season and is a highly sought after recruit for multiple levels of college programs.
All state Setter Zoe Huang proves that big things come in smaller packages with the senior returning from the reigning state champions. She will be back helping to lead the offense with her precision setting, stellar defense, and infectious positive energy on the court. Zoe is only 5’3, but that’s big enough to have the University of Maryland Terrapins wanting the great setter and defender to join their program after graduation. She stars for the Metro Volleyball Club of DC after the completion of the high school season.
Rachel Larsen is one of the keys to Flint Hill’s great offense, showcasing her outstanding ball control and defense. Standing at a modest 5’5, the Libero and Defensive Specialist, Rachel Larsen is the lone junior in this group of Flint Hill prospects, but has outstanding ball control and defense. She patrols the backcourt and sparks rallies with outstanding digs and passes which is vital to the sustained success for Coach Carrol Denure and her Lady Huskies from Flint Hill. Larsen adds tremendous energy and ball control to the program and finished with 11 digs in the state finals.
Quinn Menger returns for her senior campaign to lead St. Catherine’s (Richmond, VA) offense as the setter for the team. Menger, a lifelong Penn State Nittany Lions fan, fulfilled her dream of joining Russ Rose’s powerhouse in Pennsylvania with a January 2020 verbal commitment to join the team after graduation. The 5’11 lefty setter led St. Catherine’s to a 26-5 record in 2019 and runner up finish in the state finals. Quinn plays travel ball for Richmond Volleyball Club and was named to the AVCA All American Watchlist for this season. Menger brings outstanding instincts and athleticism to the program. IN 2018, she made the 2018 Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro team, the only underclassman to do so.
Elise Williamson rounds out our top 5 returners. The imposing 6’1 Junior Outside Hitter from St. Catherine comes into 2020-21 after being named first-team all-state last season. She has a wide range of attacks and sees the court extremely well, making her a dangerous point scorer for St. Catherine’s. She is also a strong defender and passer which makes her a hot commodity for college coaches who are looking for 6 rotation pin hitters. She has a bright future and will be a primary offensive option this coming season for the Saints. Elise was also one of the only juniors selected for the AVCA Phenom Watch List.
