Her job is incredibly hard between knowing every teammate’s next move, making the perfect set, and anticipating where every opposite blocker and defender will be next. Setters deserve a lot more credit than they are typically given; for every superstar hitter, there was a setter that put her in the exact, perfect position.
Maddie Avergonzado – 5’1”- S – East Lake High School
Maddie Avergonzado has been on East Lake High’s Varsity team since her Freshman year in 2018-19. In the last three seasons, she has played in 118 sets and completed 237 assists. Maddie is an incredibly fast player; she can get to any ball on the court with ease and her athleticism shines through when she is in a high-pressure match. The ball is rarely out of system on East Lake’s team, which speaks to both an amazing defensive system and a setter that never slows or quits. Once Maddie gets the ball into her hands, she delivers clean and accurate sets that make her offensive system look doubly impressive. While setters might be overlooked, it is hard to ignore Maddie’s presence and skill on the court.
Kyla Barker – 5’11” – RS, S – Osceola High School
Kyla Barker started on the varsity team at Osceola High School as a Freshman in 2017-18. She has played in 134 sets since then and has a total of 553 assists, 212 digs, and 109 kills. As an extremely tall setter, she plays her best when she is positioned at the net on the right side. From here, Kyla can jump set any player on the court, make an unsuspecting kill on the second contact, or put up an impressive block on the opposite left side player. Kyla is a true asset to any high-level team.
Cheyenne Rossman – 5’5” – S – River Ridge High School
Cheyenne Rossman is a solid setter that not only shines as the star of the team but also brings her teammates up with her. Since joining River Ridge High School’s Varsity team in her sophomore year in 2018-19, she has played in 128 sets accumulating nearly 1130 assists, with an average of nearly 9 assists per set. This directly shows her ability to make fast, smart decisions as a setter, knowing her hitters and putting them in the best position to make a kill. Cheyenne has also racked up 136 aces, 455 digs, and 126 kills. She is a well-rounded player that consistently demonstrates her talent around the court.
Nicole Robison – 5’8” – S – St. Petersburg High School
Since joining the St. Petersburg High’s Varsity Volleyball team in her freshman year, Nicole has played in over 260 sets and accumulated 1904 assists, 841 digs, 176 aces, and 330 kills. These stats highlight Nicole as an extremely well-rounded player. She is all over the court during the game, whether she is serving up the aces, diving for the dig, getting creative with a second-contact kill, or making the perfect set. She is a smart setter with plenty of athleticism to back up her strategic moves. Sometimes a setter can blend into the chaos of the game and go almost unnoticed and often underappreciated; however, Nicole is not that type of setter. She commands the court at all times and is an incredible player to watch.
Isabel Reynolds – 5’5” – S – George M. Steinbrenner High School
Isabel Reynolds made the move to the Varsity team this year at Steinbrenner High School. In 20 sets this season, Isabel has accumulated 92 assists. She has continued to impress coaches with her developing abilities as a setter and leader of a dominating team. As the coordinator of the offense, she is a smart setter with an almost beach-like fluidity in her setting hands. She can push a quick or long set from almost anywhere on the court with great accuracy. Isabel is definitely a player to watch as she continues to grow as a setter.
