Top Performers Of The Match
OH, Aubrey Duncan, 6’0” – Duncan is a skilled athlete who is will be near the top of Prep Dig player rankings for the Class of 2023 when they are released. Duncan knows how to fill up a box score. She amassed 10 kills, 12 serve receptions, seven digs, four service aces in a best-of-five-set victory over Olathe West. She currently plays outside hitter, but she is versatile enough to fill many roles at the next level.
MH, Sawyer Thomsen, 6’2” – Thomsen is a lean, mean, and a blocking machine. She led the Firebirds with six blocks and 15 kills in 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 victory. She has a lot of time to improve her skills, but Thomsen could project as a Division II or NAIA prospect.
S, Rylee Unruh Rylee Unruh 5'11" | OH Free State | 2022 KS , 5’7” – Unruh has multiple weapons to distribute the ball to and she takes advantage of that. She is among the state leaders in assists and super quick hands. She guides the Firebird offense, but she also contributes across the stat line. Unruh, another sophomore, added three kills, three digs, and two blocks in the win.
OH, Kenzie Marcum, 6’0” – Marcum is arguably the most seasoned talent on a team with just two seniors. Marcum had a big-hitting night with 11 kills. She also led the Firebirds with six service aces to go with seven serve receptions and five digs. Marcum could fill a void for a JUCO program with a spot left in their upcoming recruitment class.
Lawrence Free State will compete in Sub State action hosted by Olathe West on October 24. A Sub State that also features Lawrence High School, and Gardner-Edgerton.
