The twelve subdistricts take place Monday and Tuesday, October 26-27, at the high seed. The twelve winners and the next four highest in wildcard points get seeded into a district final to take place Saturday, October 31. The eight winners make it to the state tournament that will now be Wednesday, November 4, Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7 for Class C1. All state tournament games will take place at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
*Top 16 teams in wild card points at the time of writing. Wild card points are counted through sub-district games for district final pairings. Some teams are not finished with regular-season games.
C1-1 – Syracuse*, Auburn, Falls City, Fairbury
With a 19-1 record, Syracuse has been slowed the last couple of weeks with COVID and missed their conference tournament, but will be back by subdistricts. Senior Jessie Moss Jessie Moss 5'11" | MB Syracuse | 2021 State NE leads Class C1 in hitting percentage at .459 and the Rockets are well rounded hitting .305 as a team with Lindsey Moss Lindsey Moss 5'10" | OH Syracuse | 2022 State NE , Lily Vollertsen Lily Vollertsen 6'0" | OH Syracuse | 2022 State NE , Klayre Roberts Klayre Roberts 5'11" | MB Syracuse | 2022 NE , and Delainey Cast Delainey Cast 5'7" | OH Syracuse | 2024 State NE rounding out the hitting options for setter Halle Wilhelm Halle Wilhelm 5'8" | S Syracuse | 2021 State NE .
C1-2 – Lincoln Lutheran*, Malcolm*, Raymond Central, Milford, Lincoln Christian
The Class C1 Defending State Champions Warriors (26-6) reloaded this season. Abby Wachal Abby Wachal 5'10" | OH Lincoln Lutheran | 2023 State NE , Abi Wohlgemuth, and Molli Martin Molli Martin 5'11" | MB Lincoln Lutheran | 2022 State NE are all hitting above .300. They pushed Class B #2 ranked Norris to three sets earlier this week. Malcolm (19-6) is on a run after winning the ECNC Tournament last week. Kiley Elkins is in the top 5 in the class for kills/set. Keep an eye on a much improved Raymond Central squad.
C1-3 – Omaha Roncalli, Louisville, Conestoga, Boys Town
Look for Roncalli (12-9) to push for the subdistrict win. The Crimson Pride are hitting at .312 as a team with senior Claire Wilson Claire Wilson 5'10" | DS/L Omaha Roncalli | 2021 NE at #2 in the class with .428 and senior Ella Mathies and junior Libby Hubschmann above .300 as well. Although no teams are in the top 16 in wild card points in this district, Roncalli’s schedule includes 5 level 1 teams and 6 level 2 teams.
C1-4 – Wahoo*, Douglas County West, Bishop Neumann, Fort Calhoun, Omaha Concordia
As a perennial powerhouse, Wahoo (27-0) is one of two undefeated teams in Class C1 going into the postseason. Look for senior setter and USC recruit Elle Glock and junior Mya Larson Mya Larson 5'11" | OH Wahoo | 2022 State #168 Nation NE to work their magic in their last few high school games playing together. Glock leads Class C1 with 10.9 assists/set. Larson, an uncommitted junior, is the complete package. Seniors Kelsie Sears and Lauren Kavan Lauren Kavan 5'7" | OH Wahoo | 2021 State NE and junior Taylor Luben add to the Warrior depth. Douglas County West (19-10) has pushed many teams this season with a big block from 6’3 freshman Nora Wurtz Nora Wurtz 6'4" | MB DC West | 2024 State #109 Nation NE and a scrappy defense to keep the ball from hitting the floor.
C1-5 – Oakland-Craig*, West Point-Beemer, North Bend Central, Arlington, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder
Up from Class C2 last season, Oakland-Craig (20-6), hot off a big win over Clakson/Leah (20-6 in C2), will be challenged by West Point-Beemer (20-8) and North Bend Central (15-11) for the sub-district championship. Oakland-Craig owns two wins over West Point-Beemer and split with North Bend Central. West Point-Beemer has beat North Bend Central twice this season.
C1-6 – Wayne*, Battle Creek*, Pierce, Homer, Winnebago
Wayne (22-7, 43.7931) and Battle Creek (19-8, 43.6667) are neck and neck going into postseason play. Wayne won the battle on October 15, 3-0. The teams match up very evenly. Wayne Senior Lauren Pick and Nebraska Wesleyan recruit carries much of the load and leads Class C1 with 6.2 kills/set. Battle Creek Senior BriAnna Zohner BriAnna Zohner 5'10" | OH Battle Creek | 2021 State NE isn’t far behind with 5.4 kills/set.
C1-7 – Columbus Lakeview*, David City, Columbus Scotus, Boone Central
Going into the season Lakeview Coach K.C. Belitz knew he had something special in a dark horse kind of way. Lakeview (24-5) went 22-11 last season and has won those few extra games this season to set itself up as a force to be reckoned with. Senior Reese Janssen Reese Janssen 5'8" | S Coloumbus Lakeview | 2021 State NE leads the offense with 10.1 assists/set and spreads the sets out evenly to hitters Lilly Rowe Lilly Rowe 5'9" | OH Columbus Lakeview | 2022 State NE , Katee Korte Katee Korte 5'8" | MB Columbus Lakeview | 2022 NE , Maddi Vogt, Josie Bentz Josie Bentz 5'9" | MB Columbus Lakeview | 2023 State NE , and Mallori Kucera Mallori Kucera 5'11" | MB Columbus Lakeview | 2022 State NE . Libero Jordie Nekl Jordie Nekl 5'5" | DS/L Columbus Lakeview | 2022 State NE was a good addition to the team this season and averages 5.0 digs/set. Keep an eye on David City (21-8) that has won 17 out of its last 18 games and the SNC Tournament championship.
C1-8 – St. Paul*, Grand Island Central Catholic*, Doniphan-Trumbull, Central City
St. Paul (27-0, #2 in wild card points) was runner up in Class C1 last season and is the other undefeated team, but Grand Island Central Catholic (23-2, #3 in WC points) took home the gold in Class C2. This subdistrict final has state tournament game written all over it! Both teams will advance to district finals.
C1-9 – Kearney Catholic*, Adams Central*, Hastings St. Cecelia*, Minden, Gibbon
With the most teams in the top 16 in the sub, Adams Central (19-10) and Hastings St. Cecelia (23-8) are not guaranteed a spot in a district final without outright wins in the subs. After winning a tough Centennial Conference Tournament Championship, Kearney Catholic (26-5) has lost its last two contests to very good teams in Broken Bow and Overton. Ashley Keck Ashley Keck 5'9" | OH Kearney Catholic | 2022 State NE leads the Stars with 4.2 kills/set with Sydney Conner setting evenly to other hitters Jill Collins, Bailey Spangler, and Ashlyn Wischmeier Ashlyn Wischmeier 5'8" | OH Kearney Catholic | 2021 State NE .
C1-10 – Broken Bow*, Ord, O’Neill, Ainsworth, Valentine
And coach Skylar Morris thought the Indians might have a down year… Broken Bow (24-3) reloaded this season and has won 22 straight, including solid wins over Lincoln Lutheran, Wayne, Kearney Catholic, and Mullen. With junior sisters Kya (hitter) and Kailyn (setter) Scott as returning starters, Bow added Kali Staples and Emma Schall in the front row and Cami Schweitzer and Emma Taylor to the back row. Also keep an eye on 20-8 Ord.
C1-11 – Gothenburg, Hershey, Chase County, Cozad
Another sub without a top 16 team, but Gothenburg (19-10) and Hershey (15-7) are neck and neck in points.
C1-12 – Sidney*, Ogallala*, Chadron, Mitchell
All familiar foes, Sidney (23-5) down from Class B last season, and Ogallala (19-10) have split and hold wins over the rest.
