A handful of hitters were able to do that and shine through last weekend. Here’s a look at the hitters that made an impact.
Summit 16 Blue Elite
Jacqueline Sutter, OH: Sutter played with great all-around form while leading Summit to a 4-1 record on the weekend. She doesn’t have the length of some of the other hitters, but she makes up for it with her explosiveness and ability to smoothly move around the court. Sutter didn’t show a weakness.
Cienna Lapsley, MH: Lapsley was a very disruptive player on defense. She got her hands on a lot of opposing attacks and forced offenses to change their gameplans to work around her. Lapsley also had the ability to come through with a timely kill when called upon.
Jersey Loyer Jersey Loyer 5'10" | OH Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State IN , OH: Loyer comes from an athletic family that is pretty well-known here in Michigan. She displayed her own brand of athleticism at Motor City Madness. She’s quick on her feet and is able to react instinctively to the play. She never took herself out of a point and was relentless with her efforts.
Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno
Katelynn Rottman Katelynn Rottman 5'11" | OH North Oldham | 2024 KY , OH: Rottman had very smooth delivery on her swings. The arm mechanics and velocity that she produced were very consistent, no matter where the set was located.
Angie Butler Angie Butler 5'10" | OH Mercy | 2024 State MI , OH: Butler was another smaller hitter, but was very agile and explosive around the floor. She could bring as much force to her attacks as anyone, and they were landing regularly last weekend.
Taya Nordmann Taya Nordmann 6'2" | MB Dewitt | 2024 State MI , MH: Nordmann was a real force on offense and defense. She was a big blocking presence for Michigan Elite, while really attacking from all angles on offense. Nordmann was able to hang in the air to add a little extra umph on her swings and make opposing blockers pay for trying to stop them.
MVA 16 Black
Layla Visser Layla Visser 5'11" | OH Rockford | 2025 State MI , OH: Visser was another hitter with a lot of hang time. She simply glided in the air into her swing. Sometimes they looked like they were in slow motion, but when the connection was made, it was like lightning striking. Along with her form and power, Visser did a great job of playing different attack angles.
Izzy Whittaker Izzy Whittaker 6'1" | OH Grand Haven | 2024 State MI , OH: Another impressive outside for this MVA squad, Whittaker really mixed up her shot selection. She had the power, but she also had the offspeed and lob shots. Most importantly, she knew the right time to use each one.
Inside Out 16 Mizuno Black
Madeline Vaara, OH: Vaara was a technically sound outside. She had great form on her swing and played with a lot of energy. Vaara was the most consistent piece to the Inside Out offense.
Jordyn Anderson, MH: Anderson made a lot of good reads with her blocking. She’s able to play very long with an impressive wingspan and that also led to some highlight-reel kills during the weekend.
HPVBA 16-1
Carolina Khury, OH: HPVBA had some struggles on the weekend, but Khury was a highlight for the squad. She came at the net with a lot of determination and aggression and it led to impressive finishes. She did her best to raise her game to the competition level.
