To eventually take on 18 National in the championship match, 18 White eliminated 17 Purple. The championship was a fun battle between two teams that have quite a few players who have played with and against each other for years. Both semifinals showcased evenly matched teams, as the matches had to be played into a decisive third set. In the end, Wisconsin Ice 18 National emerged the winner when their depth from the bench helped give them the edge.
Here are some standouts from the 17/18 Division:
Wisconsin Ice 18 National
Grace Gilles – 2019 – Setter – Committed To Sioux Falls
Gilles is quick with great hands. She is undersized, but she plays at the net extremely well and is smart with distribution. Gilles will be a great addition for Sioux Falls.
Taylor Pagel – 2020 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker – Wausau East
Pagel has a high contact and has excellent range. She makes smart shot selections over and around defenders. Pagel will be a great pick-up for any college program.
Wisconsin Ice 18 White
Megan SchroderMegan Schroder – 2019 – Outside Hitter – Committed To UW-Stevens Point
Schroder is a crafty outside that takes an aggressive approach and a heavy swing. She sees the court well to find the floor. Schroder also has a really high contact point and works over most blocks. She will be a great addition for the Pointers.
Gabby Johnson – 2019 – 5’8 – Middle Blocker/Pin Hitter – SPASH
Johnson provided the hot hand when setter, Mackenzie Krach (2019 – 5’8 – Newman), was able to set her in transition. Johnson worked diligently to be available in transition. She has a fast arm and a high contact point for her attack. She also has a wide range of shots and is laterally quick and explosive.
Wisconsin Ice 17 Purple
Olivia StroikLinnea Svennes – 2020 – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Newman
Svennes does a great job working the sidelines. She also presents a big block that provides a challenge for opponents. When Svennes finds her flow, not much can stop her.
Olivia Stroik – 2020 – 5’7 – Libero – SPASH
Stroik showed excellent discipline in her defensive responsibilities and provided solid ball control for her team. She is not just scrappy on defense, but does a nice job controlling digs. Stroik also communicates well with her teammates.
One Wisconsin Flyers 17 Black
Alli Routhieaux – 2020 – 5’5 – Libero – Luxemburg-Casco
This Libero was the most consistent serve-receive passer for the Flyers. She kept her team in plays with her defense and coverage. This libero provided critical touches to keep her team alive during intense rallies.
Holly Baierl – 2020 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker – Luxemburg-Casco
This Middle was definitely a go-to for the Flyers. She worked hard to be an available option in transition and scored consistently around well-formed blocks in front of her. She was dangerous when she and her setter connected.
Laser 17s
#13 – Setter – We had trouble finding a roster for Laser 17s.
This setter showed excellent vision in picking apart a defense and distributing the ball well. She handled tight passes with a big vertical and great athleticism. She found a way to score at just the right moments to grab momentum.
Gianna Vollrath – 2022 – 6’2 – Middle Blocker – Fall Creek
Vollrath hit with power and great shot selection from anywhere in the front row. She is a dynamic hitter who can score at will. Vollrath took big swings at critical times when her team needed a side out.
Mady HanseNW Stars 17 Black
Mady Hanse – 2020 – Outside Hitter – Tomahawk
Hanse is the top point scorer for the Stars. She provides power in her attacking and is the go-to player on offense. Hanse explodes and elevates from anywhere in the front row and goes wherever her team needs her.
