High Performance Nike 15-1 hasn’t been counting on a single player or strength this year, rather utilizing a variety of players to step up at different times.
Thus far, it’s led to some good success in the 2023 club season.
HPVBA Nike 15-1
Greg Brandon coaches this year’s squad of 2026 prospects.
Jillian Ferrill Jillian Ferrill 6'1" | OH Lake Fenton | 2026 State MI is an outside hitter/setter option for the squad that is proving to be a real asset to any team. The Lake Fenton product drew some eyes during the Top 250 Expo in Pontiac last December and is continuing to build on her skillset this club season. She’s got the length and athleticism to be a dominant hitter, while also having good court awareness to excel as a setter.
Jessa Romine is the other setting option and she comes from Oxford. Romine reacts well to the play as its developing and is able to get to her spot efficiently. Romine has been able to make a lot of tough defensive plays as well.
Amelia Floros also can play setter, while also being a DS option for the squad. Her ability to play both positions is due to her smooth movement on the floor. She plays with a lot of composure and focus, accurately getting the ball to her setter, or to her hitters.
Offensively, Ella Azbell Ella Azbell 5'9" | OH Holly | 2026 State MI is an outside that’s been consistently putting down points for High Performance. The Holly product has been making some appearances for 17-1 recently as well. She’s a looming presence at the net and remains active to pick up some effort blocks and kills. Azbell is able to play anywhere along the net and succeed.
Abby Austin is a right side for High Performance that provides some nice pop at the net. She’s able to power through blocks and attack deep into the opposing defense. Austin’s been consistent with her swing and delivery.
Addison Smith can play the right or left side of the net. She’s been tapping into more aggression offensively, but already has been able to develop a steady swing that she’s used to attack sharp angles.
Ellasyn Glaz is another RS option for Nike 15-1. She’s able to shift into another gear quickly with her swing and bring a lot of power to her attacks. Glaz is definitely someone the defenses have to pay attention to.
In the middle, Lilah Eliassen and Abigail Whiteherse are the primary options. Whiteherse is an athletic middle that has a long reach and is able to adapt well to any sets. She covers a lot of space with her wingspan and is athletic enough to be relentless at the net. Eliassen has been developing good chemistry with her setters and getting a knack for the quick-set finish. She brings the ball down at a tough angle for defenses to handle.
Defensively, Abbigayl Sells Abbigayl Sells 5'3" | DS/L Lake Fenton | 2026 State MI dons the libero jersey for High Performance. Another Lake Fenton product, Sells has great leadership skills on the floor. She’s vocal and in control of the defense, coming through with dozens of solid feeds to her setter each match. Sells also brings a really tough serve to the floor, making an offensive impact as well.
Laney Devito helps with the defensive depth as a DS for High Performance. She covers her space very efficiently and stays light on her feet. Like Sells, Devito is able to make a lot of digs and her serve receive look effortless at times.
High Performance, like 16-1 and 17-1, is really pushing itself against solid competition this year. In the Michiana Power League, the squad started slowly, but really turned on some strong performances in the last two sessions. That included a close battle with HPVBA Nike 16-1.
A third-place finish in the 2023 Presidents Day Challenge as part of the 15 Open/Premier Division was a nice boost for the squad.
The Kentucky Bluegrass Tournament, their last event, saw the squad take some lumps, but still fought for a win to keep themselves with a winning record thus far in 2023.
With some moving pieces, consistency isn’t always easy, but this team has a good balance around the court and should remain competitive with any of the top teams in the region.
