Continue ReadingThe Open Divisions are just full of future college talent with a lot of players already committed to their future colleges. We sometimes forget there is also Club and Badger Divisions and that there is talent to be found there as well. Here are 6 standouts that you wouldn’t have seen in Open but should be on your radar!
Ania HyattAnia Hyatt – 2020 – 6’2 – Middle Blocker – Cumberland – Northwestern Wisconsin VBC 18-1
This 6’2 middle shows a lot of promise. Hyatt showed off her many tools in the Badger Division while helping her team to a 6th place finish. She was powerful and quick in transition, always making herself available. I would be interested to see how she develops in the next year. While her offense is effective, what makes Hyatt really lethal is her blocking. She reads well, takes a quick first step to close the block, and has such a long reach to be dynamic with her press.
Chloe Wolf – 2020 – 5’9 – Pin Hitter – Greendale – Motion 17 Green
Wolf is a pin hitter that at first glance isn’t too intimidating. But you would be wrong! She is as good a passer, as well as attacks efficiently and aggressively. Wolf takes a big approach and has a fast swing. She was a big contributor to her team’s 2nd place finish in the Club Division.
Emma Jaje – 2020 – Libero – Antigo – One Wisconsin Antigo 17-1
Jaje has grown up playing up in age levels and it shows when you see her high volleyball IQ as she plays the game and communicates to her teammates. She commands situations that would cause most liberos to panic. Jaje steps in seamlessly to deliver out of system balls and reads opposing hitters with ease.
#49 Heidi Compe blockingHeidi Compe – 2019 – 5’11 – Middle Blocker – DeForest – Wisconsin Performance 18UA
Compe helped Performance take a 1st place finish in the Club Division. She shined at BRC and definitely caught my eye. Compe did a great job consistently making smart shots around opposing blocks, finding the 4 spot tip, and beating the block by running a great quick tempo gap route. Compe was a force with a high point of contact and a fast, hard swing.
Lenna Smith – 2020 – 5’8 – Outside Hitter – Manistique (MI) – Summit 18 Red
Smith is a versatile 6-rotation outside who can do it all. Her scrappy defense is solid, and you can tell she plays with a lot of passion. Smith keeps opponents on their toes and is a big point scorer for her squad. Her serving is aggressive and terminal, while her in-system attacking is consistent from either pin. Smith takes full advantage of a small window between blockers and hammers it. She may be playing up an age division, but she was a huge contributor to her team’s 10th place finish in the Club Division.
Megan AdamsMegan Adams – 2019 – 5’7 – Setter/Right Side – Stoughton – Wisconsin Performance 18UA
Adams runs a great 5-1 offense and gets her hands on every second ball. She takes calculated risks, isn’t predictable, and is a smart distributor. Adams does a solid job pushing the tempo, going against the flow, and knowing her hitters the way a setter should. Her soft hands and a quick release keeps the opposing defense honest. Adams is also very athletic and can put up a decent block, even though she would be considered undersized.
