Coached by John Spinney, Tsunami finished first in Silver and 13th overall. The team ended the weekend 6-2. One of their losses was to the winner of the tournament-who earned an open bid-Mizuno Northern Lights 17-1.
17 Tsunami was led by a versatile front row: Abby Powers (Notre Dame Academy), Torri Wurtz (Holy Cross Covington), Madison McCloskey (Newport Central Catholic), and Cate Scheper (Notre Dame Academy). All four athletes are strong middle blockers that can attack from all positions in the front row. Their ability to run any ball at any pace allowed setters Emma Grome (St. Ursula Academy) and Emme Madden (West Claremont) to run a diverse offense.
Northern Lights was the first of three qualifiers NKYVC 17 Tsunami will attend in the pursuit of an Open Bid to Nationals. Tsunami will also be competing at the Mid East Qualifier (MEQ) in Indianapolis, IN and the North East Qualifier (NEQ) in Philadelphia, PA.
