Having just competed in Warren at the Blue Water Sports Complex in the Great Lakes Festival last weekend, Arsenal 16U Red is now preparing to play at one-day events March 15 at home and March 22 in Holly. Guiding this team through that potential minefield is a rather strong lineup, which includes…
GABBY MAZZA
Perhaps it’s because she wears jersey number one according to www.arsenalvbc.org, but whatever the motivation Mazza isn’t one to blend quietly into the background. Instead she puts her on-court abilities to work, and that means being able to get incredibly low on the bump, especially on the serve. She also has the height to do some serious damage at the net, be it on defense or offense.
MADILYNN HETZER
Passing may be on the forefront of what number 22 does well, but there isn’t much going on in the frontcourt this athlete isn’t comfortable with. Hetzer is intensely defensive-minded and shows that by being able to bump as hard as the game is long.
MORGAN BRYCE
The backcourt is where number three tends to stand out the most, and her ability to flow seamlessly in and out of the lineup as needed definitely serves her well. Bryce owns her space and keeps the game in front of her.
AVERY HAVILAND
Up front is where this athlete shines the brightest. Not only does she have a nice touch at the net, but she also has the ability to play with power. That duplicitous nature to her game can be deceiving and has the potential to allow Haviland to surprise the opposition at some point in every contest.
MADDISON BORBEAU
As a Libero what number 19 brings to the table is rather specific and includes being able to change the momentum of any matchup with her serve. Borbeau’s very nature pushes her entire team to rally around her when it counts the most, making her a leader by example, as well as a key piece in the puzzle that is the overall success of this squad.
ZANA McENTIRE
If patience is a virtue, then number 15 has that trait in spades and exhibits it by letting the game come to her. McEntire doesn’t over-reach or force plays. Instead, she claims the middle of the frontcourt and compliments her teammates well by distracting the opposition through her ability to fake or mimic a play or movement. This dynamic makes her rather key for Arsenal 16U Red in the grand scheme of things.
Upcoming practices for Arsenal 16U Red include March 17th, 19th, 24th and 26th.
