The Class of 2023 has some emerging setters, but these four have shown they will be capable of leading a team for years to come, whether it be at the prep or club level. Here’s four 2023 setters that have made a name for themselves.
Skylar Bump Skylar Bump 5'7" | S Lakewood | 2023 MI , Lakewood/FaR Out
Bump made her presence known right away, taking over the offense for the D2 power, Lakewood. She handled herself very well in 2019 by racking up over 1,200 assists and approaching 100 aces. Bump was able to feed the O’Gorman sisters throughout the prep year and elevate her play in the process. She was continuing to improve with FaR Out 15 Black before mono forced her to the sidelines. Bump and the Vikings should be a top contender once again in 2020.
Ava Sarafa Ava Sarafa 6'0" | S Marian | 2023 State #14 Nation MI , Marian/Michigan Elite
[player_tooltip player_id="66328" first="Ava" last="Sarafa"]Sarafa had the opportunity to run the offense for a young Marian team this past fall and found her footing as the season progressed. Finishing with over 1,000 assists, Sarafa showed that she will be another long-term fixture at the position for the Mustangs. Her leadership skills continued to grow with Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno and she’s got the determination to push Marian toward being a top D1 contender in 2020.
Erin Kline Erin Kline 6'2" | S Mercy | 2023 State #123 Nation MI , Mercy/Legacy
Kline didn’t get the chance to play at the varsity level at Mercy, as Julia Bishop Julia Bishop 5'10" | S Mercy | 2021 State MI has been one of the program’s great players. However, the ability to study and learn from Bishop allowed Kline to have a breakout club year with Legacy 15-1 Adidas. Running the offense of the nation’s top 15U squad, Kline has helped them to a perfect tournament record while getting the most out of her talented hitters. Kline is sure to be a 2023 setter to watch.
Corrie Wisser Corrie Wisser 5'10" | S Hopkins | 2023 State MI , Hopkins/MVA
Wisser is another freshman that got a chance to run her prep team’s offense, as she did so at Hopkins in 2019. Wisser showed a lot of poise and promise, as she played her way to All-Region honors for the Division 2 program. Wisser played setter for MVA 15 Black this club season and continues to develop new skills at her position. Her wealth of experience this past year is going to lead to great things in the 2020 prep season.
