The Libero at first was not fully accepted by players but as the position remained and the benefits started mounting the Libero because a coveted and cherished position. There are a variety of rules for the Libero to follow but once the position is put into rotation the game become faster, with more rallies. The right Libero can add electricity with their incredible ball-handling skills, their solid serve receive and with their uncanny ability to save plays with magical dives and unforgiving pancakes.
When the Libero is strong the team can operate in system. The right player as the Libero can help the entire team relax into their play and create a better space for players to reach full potential.
Alexandra Aponte – Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland – Graduates 2020 – Libero
Alexandra Aponte Highlight Reel Libero
Alexandra is the backbone to her team. She reads the ball on both sides of the net. Alexandra anticipates the next move without giving away her position. At 5’5” she plays like a giant with no limitations. Her team is confident in her playing which is evident as the move from the ball when she is the one calling it. She has smart feet and fast hands. As a Libero she is the Setter’s best friend. Even when she is not involved in the play she is talking to her teammates the entire time. Stoneman Douglas is going to have big shoes to fill as she steps off the court as a 2020 Graduate.
Sophia Ervanian – Pointe Vedra High School, Ponte Verde – Graduates 2020 – Libero
Sophia is a 5’6″ passing machine. She averages 5 digs per set and is not afraid of hitting the floor to save the ball. She is a three year Varsity player with solid ball handling skills and the arm for ace serves. Sophia minimizes error while being involved in every possible ball on her side of the net. She is an asset, and major calming factor in the middle of a hard fought game for her teammates which makes all the difference.
Kelli Miller – Ransom Everglades, – Graduates 2021 – Libero / DS

Kelli is one of the most calm, poised Libero’s on the courts in Florida. Her platform and legs deliver a soft precise ball into the setters’ hands. Kelli handles difficult serves with confidence and follow through allowing her team to run in system offense. She can read the hitters giving her the ability to be in position with calm feet waiting for the swing. Kelli uses her legs to redirect the ball while holding her platform strong leading to precision tempo passing. She is strong as a Libero or DS playing from any position in the back court. She is able to deliver a hard float serve anywhere on the court putting the opposing team on their heels. She is going to be a steady, consistent leader this upcoming season!
Marcella Proenca – Cypress Bay High School, Weston – Graduates 2021 – Libero / DS

Marcella is a 5’3” Libero who is small and very mighty! She reads the defense like the she’s reading the Sunday paper. Her digs are pinpoint precision, her platform doesn’t break, her vision and quick feet make her movements look easy. But that is the name of the game be good enough others think they can do it too. Marcella also has a serve that can pick apart other teams especially the other teams libero. Every setter wants her on their team and every hitter can’t seem to find the floor on her side. A wonderful young, powerful athlete to watch this coming season!
Shea Salvato – St. John Paul II Academy, – Graduates 2022 – Libero / DS
Shea is a hardworking, dedicated Libero / DS. She is a solid passer learning to relax into her position affording her teammates the ability to run a smooth game. Shea is an athlete who loves to practice, even signing up for private lessons, to strengthen her game. She has quick feet and a positive attitude keeping her teammates encouraged and pumped up to play their best game. Shea is the kind of player coaches love to train due to her attitude, talent, and work ethic. She will be a great player to watch as she continues to grow in confidence, knowledge and position.
Players who thrive as Liberos are body sacrificing dig artists who enjoy taking the sting out of a hitters swing. They have the talent to read a hitter, next-level Liberos can read the ball know where it is going by watching the setter. The Libero also has the ability to communicate the opposing teams defense and serve giving their team a wonderful mix of calm-excitement.
A good Libero can be the defensive spine of the team, the best friend of the setter, an encouraging communicator, and the nemesis of opposing hitters.
The pass controls the play which means that the Libero dictates the play.
