So much for the idea of easing into the 2013 Nebraska High School volleyball season. Between the Bellevue Invitational, Beatrice Invitational and Heartland Crossroads Tournament in Fremont, all but 4 of the top 10 teams in Class A and B combined will be squaring off against each other. Class C’s top-ranked Columbus Scotus also hosts its own invite this weekend.
The Bellevue and Beatrice tournaments are both 2-day affairs with pool play on Friday and bracket play on Saturday. The Fremont and Columbus Scotus tournaments are both single-day format on Saturday. Here is a quick look at the schedules and match-ups for this weekend’s top tournaments.
Bellevue Invitational @ Bellevue West High School
Pool play begins at 4 p.m. on Friday with bracket play starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Top two teams from each pool advance to championship bracket while bottom two teams advance to consolation bracket. Rankings are Nebraska HS volleyball rankings in Class A unless noted otherwise.
Pool A: #1 Marian; Class B #8 Omaha Skutt; Class B #7 Omaha Gross; Bellevue East.
Pool B: Western Christian of Iowa; #7 Lincoln Southeast; Bellevue West; Omaha Burke.
Pool C: #5 Millard North; #8 Papillion-LaVista South; #4 Lincoln Northeast; Omaha Central.
Pool D: #6 Papillion-LaVista; Sioux City Heelan; Millard South; Omaha Westside.
Beatrice Invitational @ Beatrice High School, Middle School, City Auditorium & Southeast Community College
Pool play begins at 4:30 p.m. with bracket play starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Following pool play, the top 8 teams advance to the Gold Tournament and remaining four teams will play in the Silver Tournament. Rankings are Nebraska HS volleyball rankings in Class B unless noted otherwise.
Orange Pool (High School Gym): #5 Grand Island Northwest; Elkhorn; Beatrice; DC West.
Black Pool (Middle School & City Auditorium): #2 Waverly; Class C #2 Kearney Catholic; Norfolk; Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.
White Pool (Southeast Community College): #1 Lincoln Pius X; #4 Aurora; Bennington; Ogallala.
Heartland Crossroads Tournament @ Fremont Senior High
Round-robin play begins at 9 a.m. with 5th and 3rd place matches scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the championship match scheduled for 3 p.m.
Teams: Class A #2 Millard West; Class B #6 Elkhorn South; Class B #3 Gretna; Class A #10 Fremont; Columbus; Lincoln High.
Shamrock Invite at Columbus Scotus
Tournament is bracket play only beginning at 9 a.m. Opening-round matches of the eight-team tournament is as follows:
Class C #1 Columbus Scotus vs. Twin River; Stanton vs. Columbus Lakeview; Hartington Cedar Catholic vs. Wahoo Neumann; Norfolk Catholic vs. Pierce.
