Today marks the beginning of official high school volleyball practices in Nebraska, but even if you aren’t that old, there are opportunities to play competitively this fall.
The Nebraska Volleyball League – a joint venture between Nebraska Elite in Omaha and Nebraska ONE in Lincoln – is currently taking registrations for individuals or complete teams.
There will be two divisions in the Nebraska Volleyball League. A 4th, 5th and 6th grade division which uses volley lite balls and a 7th and 8th grade division using regulation volleyballs. Aside from practices, teams will compete in four tournaments, rotating between Omaha and Lincoln.
Tournament dates are currently scheduled for Sept. 14, Sept. 21, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12. Tournaments in Omaha will be played at the Nebraska Sports and Fitness Complex while those played in Lincoln will take place at Spike’s Bar & Grille or Bison Center.
Teams throughout Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding communities take part in the Nebraska Volleyball League – including several Parochial Athletic League teams.
At Nebraska Elite, you can put together your own team and have one of their coaches train your team. In such cases, you need to register as a team. Individual registration at Nebraska Elite takes place from either 6-8 p.m. tonight – Aug. 18 – or from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Everyone makes a team – there are no cuts.
Cost through Nebraska Elite is $300 and covers two nights of practice each week, one coach for teams of 8-10 players, a Nebraska Volleyball League uniform, a practice t-shirt and participation in four tournaments.
