HAMPTON – It was a good night to be a Hampton Hawk on Thursday.
The third-ranked team in Class D-2 started the evening with a 25-11, 25-17 win over Dorchester in a triangular host by the Hawks. Hampton then finished the evening with a heart pounding 25-18, 18-25, 28-26 victory over #2 Giltner.
Giltner, the defending Class D-2 state champions, held a 17-12 lead in the pivotal third set, but the Hawks were able to rally and eventually took a 21-19 lead after three consecutive ace serves from Madison VanHousen.
The win improved Hampton to 4-0 on the season while Giltner fell to 4-1 following the loss.
In the middle game of the triangular, Giltner defeated Dorchester 25-9, 25-17. Dorchester dropped to 1-3 after the two losses.
