OMAHA – Just like characters in a Halloween-style horror flick, both Aurora and Omaha Gross ran right into a buzz saw Tuesday at Omaha Skutt.
Skutt, the top-ranked team in Class B and the #4 team overall in the state, continued the rampage it has been on for more than a month now with 2-0 sweeps of both Class B #7 Aurora and #9 Omaha Gross in a triangular.
Skutt opened the triangular with a 25-10, 25-15 win over Aurora and capped the night with a 25-16, 26-18 win over Omaha Gross. Between those matches, Aurora took a 17-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over Omaha Gross.
Omaha Skutt improved to 27-5 with the wins and will host Class B #2 Elkhorn South on Thursday. Aurora now stands at 21-6 while Omaha Gross dropped to 20-10.
In the match against Aurora, Skutt used big runs early in both sets to take control of the match. The Skyhawks scored the first five points of the first set and eventually built a 10-1 lead and never looked back.
In the second set, Aurora led briefly at 4-3 on a hitting error by Skutt, but the Skyhawks then went on a 8-0 to take an 11-4 lead as the Huskies were never able to get any closer than five points the rest of the way.
