No Surprises In Metro Conference Pool Play
PAPILLION - Things went pretty much as expected Monday evening during pool play of the Metro Conference Tournament at Papillion-LaVista and Papillion-LaVista South High Schools.
Top seeds in each of the four pools - Omaha Marian, Papillion-LaVista, Papillion-LaVista South and Millard West - all went a perfect 3-0 to advance on to the bracket quarterfinals on Wednesday as the top four teams overall. Marian, Papillion-LaVista and Millard West each got through the first day without dropping a set while Papillion-LaVista South needed to come back for a 21-25, 25-17, 25-20 win over Bellevue West to win its pool.
Bellevue West and Millard North each finished second in their pools to also advance to the quarterfinals. The two upsets - at least from a seeding standpoint - came with #9-seed Omaha Westside defeating #8-seed Omaha Central 25-14, 25-20 and #10-seed Millard South beating #7-seed Omaha Northwest. As a result, both Westside and Millard South advanced to the quarterfinals.
Below is the schedule for Wednesday's quarterfinals and semifinals and the championship match on Thursday as well as all the results from pool play today. Two-time defending Class A state champion Omaha Marian will take a 29-match winning streak into the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
