SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No teams from Nebraska were crowned as champions on Sunday at the AAU Grand Prix, but a couple came very close.
VCNebraska 15 Elite advanced to the 15 Open championship with a perfect 5-0 record and took on undefeated Kokoro 151 of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
In the final, Kokoro took a 25-22, 25-18 win over VCNebraska and finished the two-day tournament with a 6-0 record without dropping a set. VCNebraska went 3-0 in pool play on the first day and then had straight-set tournament wins over Southwest Minnesota VBC and Kandi Elite to reach the championship.
In the 18 Open division, Nebraska Juniors 181 gave the #3 team in the nation – Minnesota Select 181 – all it wanted and more in the championship match before falling 25-20, 24-26, 15-12. Both teams dominated competition leading up to the championship as each squad went 5-0 and didn’t allow more than 19 points to any opponent in a single set.
