Battle With Mustangs Looms For Omaha Skutt at Millard North Invitational
OMAHA – Both Class B #1 Omaha Skutt and Class A #4 Millard North went 3-0 on the first day of competition at the Millard North Invitational on Friday and appear to be on a collision course for the title of the round-robin tournament on Saturday.
Omaha Skutt improve to 10-0 on the season with a fairly consistent performance on Friday, defeating Lincoln East 25-13, 25-18 and Class A #5 Millard West 25-15, 25-10 before finishing the day with a 25-17, 25-17 win over Millard South.
Millard North, meanwhile, improved to 7-3 on the year with a 25-12, 25-19 win over Millard South, a 25-16, 25-21 win over Grand Island and finished by taking a 25-23, 25-7 win over Lincoln East.
On Saturday, Omaha Skutt faces Grand Island and Lincoln North Star before battling Millard North at approximately 1 p.m. Millard North’s two matches Saturday morning are against Millard West and Lincoln North Star.
With a record of 2-1 on Friday night, Millard West remains alive for the tournament title, thanks in large part to its come-from-behind 20-25, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Lincoln North Star. That win improved Millard West to 6-2 on the season while the loss dropped North Star to 4-4.
At 1-1, Grand Island is still in pursuit of the tournament title as well. The Islanders beat Lincoln North Star to start the tournament before falling to Millard North. Grand Island, 2-2 on the year, was the only team to play just two matches the first day, meaning the Islanders have the mother of all gauntlets to run on Saturday. Grand Island faces Omaha Skutt, Millard South, Lincoln East and Millard West tomorrow.

9 a.m. – Omaha Skutt vs. Grand Island; Millard North vs. Millard West; Millard South vs. Lincoln East.
10 a.m. – Millard North vs. Lincoln North Star; Millard West vs. Lincoln East; Grand Island vs. Millard South.
11 a.m. – Omaha Skutt vs. Lincoln North Star.
Noon – Grand Island vs. Lincoln East.
1 p.m. – Omaha Skutt vs. Millard North; Millard West vs. Grand Island; Lincoln North Star vs. Millard South.
