PAPILLION – It will be a pair of battles between district rivals that determines who plays for the Allison Weston Invitational championship on Saturday.
Class A #2 Papillion-LaVista will take on cross-town rival #3 Papillion-LaVista South in the first semifinal at 9 a.m. while a pair of Millard schools – #4 North and #5 West – will do battle in the second semifinal at 10 a.m. at Papillion-LaVista High School.
Pool play on Friday night did not produce any major upsets as the top two teams from each pool advanced. The only upset from a seeding standpoint came when seventh-seeded Kearney knocked off sixth-seeded Omaha Central 25-21, 25-13 in the final match of the night in Pool B.
Papillion-LaVista won Pool A, but not without a scare from Lincoln Southwest, which pushed the Monarchs to three sets before falling 25-21, 13-25, 25-15.
Millard North rolled to the top spot in Pool B sweeping all three of its opponents without giving up more than 20 points in an set, which included a 25-19, 25-13 win over Papillion-LaVista South.
Below are the result from each pool Friday night. The tournament championship is scheduled to being at approximately Noon on Saturday.
