DONIPHAN – A showdown between Class C-1 #1 Kearney Catholic and #2 St. Paul was set-up when each team swept its semifinal match in the Lou-Platte Conference semifinals Tuesday night.
Kearney Catholic (26-3) knocked off 20-4 and #6 Ord 25-17, 25-11, 26-24 in the first semifinal while St. Paul (25-1) defeated Class C-2 #3 and hosts Doniphan-Trumbull 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 in the second semifinal of the night.
That sets-up a clash between the top two teams in Class C-1 for the conference title on Thursday night, also at Doniphan-Trumbull. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The two teams will then turn around and play each other again next Tuesday night in a regular-season match in Kearney.
In Kearney Catholic’s win over Ord, Anna Squires led the Stars with 13 kills, 12 assists and two blocks while Kylie Thiele added nine kills.
Ord was led by Danielle Bruha’s nine kills and eight from Andrea Carson.
Leslie Fox led the way for St. Paul in its win over Doniphan-Trumbull, finishing the match with 14 kills while Hayley Fox added 11 kills and Jaden Jakubowski had nine. Claira These finished with 35 assists.
McKenna Niemoth led the Cardinals with a team-high 12 kills and Carsyn Poppe had 24 assists.
