The Rockets had control through most of the first set. Senior setter Hannah Ochsner did a great job spreading the ball around to all of her hitters throughout the match. Hannah ended the match with 33 assists. Freshman outside hitter Maddie Bahm led the way in attacking for the Rockets and put down 11 kills. Northeast’s back row defenders were rocking it as well in the first set as well as throughout the match. Their freshman libero Holly Ochsner, senior outside hitter Makenna Kirk, senior DS Camden Blowers, as well as senior DS Molly Houser were all working hard to keep the ball alive. Their defense led them to a 25-17 win in the first set. Holly Ochsner ended the match with 15 digs and Camden Blowers ended the match with 11 digs respectively.
In the 2nd set, Lincoln North Star started to come alive. North Star’s senior setter Ireland Curry started getting the middles going, as well as senior Andrea Gardner on the outside. The 2nd set was back and forth all throughout. Both teams exchanged set points in the end until Northeast’s libero Holly Ochsner ended the 2nd set with an ace, giving the Rockets a 28-26 set win.
In the 3rd set, Northeast jumped to a 7-1 lead with their serve and kept the momentum throughout the remainder of the match. Lincoln North Star just couldn’t find a groove or any momentum, and Northeast got the sweep after finishing the 3rd set 25-10 to win the match.
The Rockets improve to 9-9 on the season and will try to continue their momentum at home for the Lincoln Northeast Invitational this weekend.
