And for this year’s VCN 16 Elite team to be successful, the former Nebraska assistant and current Bellevue University assistant said his goal is to turn his team into ball control freaks as well.
“This team is not as physical as VCN’s 16s last year,” Mader said of the team that finished 5th at AAU National in the Premier Division. “The goal is to try to become an open level team. We have many skilled players but may lack the size.”
One of the sports where VCN 16 Elite should be big and physical is in the middle with Lincoln Pius X 6’3 freshman Alexis Markowski. She missed all of the high school season with an injury but is working her way back. Also in the middle will be Dorchester 6’2 sophomore Abby Plouzek.
At setter, VCN 16 Elite has a pair of good ones in Waverly’s Annika Evans and Addison Heidemann of Diller-Odell. Madalyn Clauss of Norris is slated as the libero.
On the pins, VCNebraska 16 Elite has Elise Gilroy of Millard West, Kate Hunzeker of Lincoln Southwest, Kelsey Perotto of Waverly, Carly Rodaway of Lincoln Pius X and Minden all-stater Jensen Rowse.
Members of the VCN 16 Black team are Kadence Brodersen, Carly Coen, Frankie Curren, Sadie Emmett, Taylor Little, Madysn Nagel, Katelyn Thompson, Kaela White, Delaney Whitaker and Cameron Young.
Members of the VCN 16 Blue team are Jasmine Creevan, Morgan Dehning, Katelyn Gottberg, Hannah Hiller, Brooke Hiller, Maisie Hillman, Kira Kalnins, Sophie Kroeker and Katie Spicka.
Abby McGargill, a libero from Gretna, is part of the VCN 16s but her team placement has not been determined yet due to injury.
