Hey College Coaches! Check Out These Uncommitted Players This Weekend
OMAHA – If you are a coach at one of the more than 100 college programs attending the Asics President’s Day Classic this weekend at CenturyLink Center, you probably already know that Nebraska is a hotbed for volleyball talent.
But, to perhaps make your life a little easier, here is a cheat sheet of sorts on some of the best unsigned players remaining from the state of Nebraska that will be playing this weekend.
And, remember, when in doubt, give that scholarship to a kid from Nebraska!
Class of 2018
Riley Newton, 5’4, Libero, VCNebraska 18 Black (Elkhorn South) – #34 in our 2018 player rankings. A 4-year starting for one of best programs in the state. She’s nails as a defender.
Eran Rose-Gronewold, 5’4, Libero, Nebraska Juniors 181 Black (Waverly) – #40 in our 2018 player rankings. Recently de-committed from NAIA power Hastings College. Great culture kid who will run through walls for you.
Lauren Isenberg, 5’10, RS/OPP, Nebraska Elite 18 MOAB (Omaha Marian) – #58 in our 2018 player rankings. Someone is going to get an absolute steal with Isenberg. A key piece of Omaha Marian’s Class A state-title team.
Kayla Harris, 5’8, Libero, Kairos 18 Elite Beta (South Sioux City) – #84 in our 2018 player rankings. Another outstanding libero still available for now, she basically owns every school record for back row play at South Sioux City
Brynn Stansberry, 5’3, Libero, Nebraska Elite 18 Envy (Bennington) – #90 in our 2018 player rankings. Stansberry has been a standout at Bennington since her freshman year and she has helped lead Elite Envy to an USAV American division bid to nationals already.
Anna Clark, 5’6, Libero/DS, Banzai 181 (Elkhorn South) – #94 in our 2018 player rankings. Clark played alongside Newton at Elkhorn South to give the Storm one of the top backrows in the state.
Camden Blowers, 5’8, Utility, Nebraska Juniors 181 Black (Lincoln Northeast) – #111 in our 2018 player rankings. Blowers simply does everything well and does whatever the team needs from her – both at Lincoln Northeast and at Nebraska Juniors. Can play back row and also terminate at the net.
Alicia Hogan, 5’9, OH. Banzai 181 (Omaha South) – #121 in our 2018 player rankings. Hogan is still very raw in her development, but she has tremendous leaping ability and strong arm. She has a big upside.
Class of 2019
Mara LeGrand, 5’10, Setter, Nebraska Juniors 171 Black (Papillion-LaVista South) – #6 in our 2019 player rankings. LeGrand is still developing as a setter after making the position with just a couple years ago. Has one of the best complete skill sets among 2019 class.
Emma Worthington, 5’10, Setter, Nebraska Elite 17 TKO (Omaha Duchesne) – #13 in our 2019 player rankings. Worthington is one of the most polished setters in the state and, more importantly, she simply knows how to win. Successful teams always have a versatile player like Worthington at their core. As a person, one of the most well-respected kids in the state.
Emmy Grant, 6’1, MH/RS, Nebraska Elite 17 TKO (Millard North) – #17 in our 2019 player rankings. About the only downside with Grant is that she isn’t flashy, which is why she’s still available. All she does is make the big plays at the big times. Does all the little things right.
Jaden Ferguson, 6’0, OH, Nebraska Juniors 181 Black (Lincoln Southwest) – #19 in our 2019 player rankings. Ferguson’s upside is pretty high and she’s made some huge leaps forward in the past couple years. An incredible athlete, Ferguson is starting to develop into a smart, well-rounded outside.
Camryn Opfer, 6’1, OH, Nebraska ONE 17 Titanium (Seward) – #23 in our 2019 player rankings. Opfer may be limited this weekend because of district basketball play, but that just tells you what kind of athlete she is. Opfer has been really trending upward and she’s become more physical and consistent.
Paige Holdsworth, 5’11, OH, Nebraska Elite 17 Razee (Millard North) – #25 in our 2019 player rankings. It was about this time last year when Holdsworth’s stock really started to rise as she became a dominating terminator who hits a heavy ball. Has a bulldog/warrior mentality that you love to see from an outside.
Erin Williams, 5’4, Libero, Nebraska ONE 17 Titanium (Lincoln Lutheran) – #26 in our 2019 player rankings. She’s probably not going to be on the “uncommitted” list a whole lot longer the way she has been playing the last two months. Tough as nails defender, true quarterback presence.
Class of 2020
Marriah Buss, 6’1, OH, Nebraska ONE 17 Titanium (Lincoln Lutheran) – #3 in our 2020 player rankings. Quite simply one of the most unstoppable attackers in the state who plays pretty much full throttle each moment she is on the court. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if she were to make a commitment in the next month or two.
Eve Fountain, 5’9, OH/Libero, Nebraska Elite 16 Vici (Millard North) – #6 in our 2020 player rankings. Her emergence late in the high school season helped propel Millard North back into the Class A state championship match. A dynamic athlete that can impact the game in many ways.
Atley Carey, 6’2, MB, Nebraska Elite 16 Vici (Lincoln East) – #7 in our 2020 player rankings. Things are really starting to come along for Carey. As she continues to get older, stronger and more physical she will be one of the most dominating players at the net in the state.
Mayah Delgado, 5’11, RS/OPP, Nebraska Elite 161 Vici (Omaha Duchesne) – #8 in our 2020 player rankings. As just a sophomore, Delgado is already one of the most physical and strong players at the net in the state and she has so much room for growth left in her game.
Tria McLean, 5’10, Setter/RS, Nebraska Elite 161 Vici (Battle Creek) – #11 in our 2020 player rankings. McLean is new to the concept of setting, but her natural athletic ability lends itself to it really well. She has a long way to go as a setter, but her tantalizing skill set makes it easy to see that she has a huge ceiling.
Lauren Taubenheim, 6’0, OH/RS, Nebraska ONE 17 Titanium (Lincoln Pius X) – #13 in our 2020 player rankings. Speaking of huge ceilings – Taubenheim has one. Perhaps limited this weekend because of basketball, Taubenheim puts up a great block and can terminate well.
Jensen Rowse, 5’9, OH, VCNebraska 16 Elite (Minden) – #14 in our 2020 player rankings. Much like previously mentioned Eve Fountain, Rowse is undersized for an attacker, but she is a flat-out baller that is smart and has a complete skill set. She’s the Swiss army knife of the 2020 class.
Lucy O’Brien, 5’5, Libero, Nebraska Elite 16 Vici (Omaha Marian) – #15 in our 2020 player rankings. Another in a long line of great back row player from Omaha Marian, O’Brien is sneaky quick and steady at libero. When she’s on fire, Elite 16 Vici is hard to stop.
Molly Plahn, 6’1, MH/RS, Nebraska Elite 16 Vici (Millard North) – #16 in our 2020 player rankings. Plahn is long and athletic and has been getting more aggressive with her play this year. She has all the physical tools you’re looking for.
