Continue ReadingThe 15s Division can always be a little bit of an enigma. Some of these athletes have so much potential, where a school could take a risk early and make the offer to solidify a recruiting class. There are also 15s who are still developing their skill set, finding their right position, and maybe still have a couple inches to grow. Here are some of the top 15s I have seen so far this year and will be playing this weekend at the Dells.
Payton Addink – OH – Sun Prairie – Capital Adidas 15
Addink is long, athletic, and nearly six feet tall with a huge upside of untapped potential. Addink along with Halbleib are the scoring leaders of their Capital Adidas 15’s team. Addink is a go to in any position on the court, even in the back row. With a high contact point and reach she is able to hit over the block and deceptively power through to score points. She is next in line to be one of Sun Prairie’s greats at outside.
Alexis Boling – MB – Midwest Penguins 15 Black
Boling is extremely physical and powerful. Midwest Penguins 15 Black has a very solid team and has been competitive in the Great Lakes Power League so far. Boling hasn’t seen a block she doesn’t think she can hit through. As she continues to develop her game she will develop tips and shots to go along with her pure power. Her demeanor is definitely reflective of the team she plays for which is fearless.
Hattie Bray – MB – Wautoma – WVA 15 Black
Bray makes playing the middle look relatively easy with quickness and is incredibly smooth going from pin to pin to block. Bray is also extremely tough off one foot whether its a slide or a tempo set coming off the pin. This will be a big weekend for Bray and her teammates to be in contention to compete against the top teams in the region.
Josie Halbleib – RS – Sun Prairie – Capital Adidas 15
High reach, heavy swing! The over six foot, lefty from Sun Prairie is a huge threat on the right side. She can even swing a two ball out of the middle that is just as lethal. With the combination of Halbleib and Addink that puts a lot of pressure on the frontline that Capital has had to face. Capital has suffered some extremely close loses at the Super Open division of GLPL, but is right on the verge of a break through.
Natalie Johanknecht – MB – Oshkosh West – WVA 15 Black
Johanknecht is comparable to the Kiana Schmitt’s and Kiara Reinhardt’s of Wisconsin with how she looks and plays. She is a quick jumper with a fast swing where she can also run high tempos off one foot. The key to her game is that she gets up so quick she is swinging before the block can catch up to her. On the radar of plenty of college coaches, Johanknecht has had a great season so far with plenty of opportunities to continue her development.
Grace Demetrician – L – Appleton North – WVA 15 Black
Demetrician is all over the court for WVA 15 Black and her leadership and guidance is apparent with very positive body language always talking to her teammates and calling out what shots to hit and blocks that are there. A true floor leader with skills that cannot always be measured on a roster sheet, she presents a solid platform, dependable in serve receive, and will make the diving play when needed.
Skylar Gray – OH – MN Select 15-1
One of the hardest hitting outsides I have seen play so far this year. She was one of the best in the JVA Jamboree in Milwaukee early February. Her MN Select 15-1’s team will be looking for a championship this weekend.
Saari Kuehl – OH – Gladbrook-Reinbeck – CIA 15 Black
Iowa is full of small town talent, especially within a 40 mile radius of Cedar Falls/Waterloo. Kuehl is a dynamic, six rotation outside hitter that is part of a CIA program that has been climbing up the ranks in the club world. The best volleyball for Kuehl is ahead of her and training with CIA will bring out some solid volleyball skills to go with her athletic ability.
Kayla Lewinksi – RS – Midwest Penguins 15 Black
I first saw Lewinksi play at the Winter Classic in January and the first impression was a good one as she stuck her foot in a folding chair on the sideline to save a ball successfully. Besides her ability to go through a chair to save a ball, Lewinski is an athletic right side that can put a ball down and set up a solid block. This Midwest Penguins team is scrappy and I wouldn’t be surprised if they knocked off some higher rated teams in front of them.
Kaitlyn Riley – MB – Catholic Memorial – Milwaukee Sting 15 Black
Riley has hops and is very physical for the 15s level and has a huge upside that she will continue to develop. Her block and athleticism is what really puts her in the next tier of top athletes in the 15s.
Natalie Tesch – RS – Wisconsin Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting 15 Black
Tesch is a high flying, physical left handed right side that is near six feet tall that is a terminator at the net. Its very rare to have a player with this skill set, but Sting 15 Black has two with Tesch and Winkler.
Katelyn Winkler – East Troy – Milwaukee Sting 15 Black
Sting 15 Black has a great system, running a 6’2 with two solid right sides who are near six foot putting up a big block and are offensive threats as well. Winkler is solid and efficient for this team and is able to use the block to her advantage. Sting 15 Black has already seen the likes of MN Select and will be battle tested and ready heading into this weekend.
Morgan Yenter – S – Oshkosh West – WVA 15 Black
Yenter is a near six foot setter that is left handed and can run the middles extremely well for WVA 15 Black. She has plenty of tools around her to distribute and is a threat to score offensively. WVA 15 Black starts out in one of the top pools and will be interested how they fare against some of the top teams in the tournaments. They have yet to play Sting 15 Black, but will be quite a match up between the two.
