Continue ReadingWith just over a week after the official release of the Badger Region High Performance Camp list, there are some familiar names to the Wisconsin prep volleyball scene as well as some newcomers and names to definitely keep an eye on in the future. What is also exciting and a little unusual is an out of state flavor with prep athletes from Minnesota and Illinois who play for Wisconsin clubs who made the camp. In order to be eligible for the Badger Region High Performance team you must have a Badger Region Membership, which if you play for a Wisconsin club that is a must. Also, if you are from Wisconsin and play for an Illinois or Minnesota club, you must obtain a Badger Region Membership as well.
With that being said, here are the thirty athletes who will be competing at UWGB July 3-5 for a chance to make the International Youth Team for the Badger Region that will compete at the High Performance Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the end of July. Prep Dig Wisconsin will be taking a closer look at some of the athletes and will be covering the camp as well. Here are a few names you need to know!
Tatum Catalano – Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold – Germantown
Catalano brings to the High Performance Camp a dynamic set of skills where she can play any of the from row positions. Right now she is playing on the loaded Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold team where she is able to play Middle, but also outside. The 5’11 2021 recruit is extremely dynamic. When playing at the international level, where there are less substitution a player who can play multiple positions is always a plus. The training that Catalano has had at Sting this past season will really give her the skills to compete in an international style.
Maia Johnson – Capital Adidas 15 – Madison Memorial
Johnson popped up on the radar at Badger Region and is incredibly dynamic. She is quick, athletic, and is really strong off of one foot. She may not have the physicality of some of the bigger middle blockers, but she has a quick snap and can score points. Once again, the ability to play a fast pace and score from a variety of positions.
Jamey Crotteau – Northwest Volleyball Club – Cameron High School
Crotteau comes from Cameron in Northwest Wisconsin. Cameron is a small school powerhouse in that area making the state tournament in 2014 behind Hannah Bailey who is currently playing at Iowa State. Crotteau’s high school coach, Valerie Paluma had this to say about Crotteau,”Jamey is an intense, intelligent player who is also extremely positive. She’s a fun combination of smart, coachable, high energy, and athletic. In the two years she’s been a part of the HS program, she’s hit, set and played back row so she is extremely versatile”. There are plenty of positive intangibles that Crotteau brings to the court that aren’t measured on a stat sheet. Whether or not Crotteau is chosen for the Badger Region team, this will be a huge experience for her to bring back to her tradition rich program at Cameron.
Sammie Seib – Wisconsin Juniors 15-1 – Catholic Central (Burlington)
A six rotation outside that can score and ball control, may also be used as a defensive specialist. Seib was an All Tournament Team member of the 15 Open Badger Region Tournament. As a Freshman at Catholic Central in Burlington, Seib had 291 kills and 296 digs. Her versatility will be a great asset at the camp as she competes for a spot on the Badger Region Team.
Bella Holcomb – Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold – Catholic Memorial
Holcomb has been playing with Sting 15 Gold which has a schedule going up against the best in the nation all over the country. A Catholic Memorial prep, Halcomb brings a grittiness to her game, with over 200 digs as a Freshman where her high school team made it to the state semifinals in which was suppose to be a down year for CMH. With the training she has a Sting as well as her high school season, Holcomb will continue to rise as a college prospect at the next level.
Alexis Bolling – Midwest Penguins 15 Black – Waukesha West
Pure Power! Bolling is just under six feet tall, playing middle for Midwest Penguins 15 Black who won the Badger Region Qualifier. With athleticism, quick hops, and the ability to adjust quickly Bolling has a really unique skill set. Her strength relies in her aggressiveness and the ability to hit an up tempo set whether it be a quick or a shoot. I would love to see what it looks like for her to hit on either pin. Once again, at the international level, being a player with a wide variety of skills is a huge plus!
Lauren Sitter – Motion (MVP) 15 Blue – Germantown
MVP has been establishing a group of extremely athletic middles at all levels and that goes for the same with Sitter. A Germantown prep, Sitter will be able to play in the front row from a variety of positions. Germantown was in the final four at state in 2014 and has quite a crew back of young, athletic talent that will be looking to make a push in the next couple of years.
Isabella Bratzke – Milwaukee Sting 15 Black – Indian Trail
Bratzke is on the Milwaukee Sting 15 Black team that is always up for an upset. This team is solid defensively with weapons at every position to score. Bratzke is primarily an outside hitter, but when duty calls was able to play middle for Sting Black at Badger Region when they were down to eight healthy players. Bratzke is 5’8, but plays much higher and can find a way to score in a variety of ways whether it be with her power or off speed shots.
