SubscribeMartin Luther is going into the 2018 season looking forward not back. The Spartans have completely revamped their coaching team this year, promoting Haley Naber, the JV coach for the past four years, into the varsity coaching position. With big changes coming, this talented and passionate group of athletes is looking to develop themselves, the team, and the program to set them up for success in years to come. In 2017 they had a conference record of 2-8, fighting hard battles and competing well in their challenging conference.
With big goals ahead, Martin Luther is looking to some key returning players to lead the team and set the bar high.
Cassy Barry (Class of 2019, Outside Hitter, Uncommitted): Cassy was a powerhouse hitter for the Spartans. A four year varsity player she has remained a consistent leader for the team throughout her career. In 2017 she had 221 kills bringing her total career kills to 442 for the Spartans. She also had 43 aces, 92 digs and received 363 balls on serve receive. Cassy will continue to be a leader for the team in her senior season.
Bonnie Jensen (Class of 2019, Middle Hitter, Uncommitted): Bonnie has a spark and passion for volleyball. She is highly competitive yet always manages to make her teammates smile. In addition to being an all around great leader she also racked up some massive stats including 98 kills, 15 aces, and 30 blocks. With almost 200 sets played under her belt in her three years on varsity thus far, Bonnie has made a huge impact on her team and looks to lead her team in the 2018 season.
Sydney Burris (Class of 2020, Middle Hitter, Uncommitted): Sydney is talented and versatile hitter. She finished out 2017, only her first year on varsity, with 131 kills and 50 blocks. Clearly she came into her 2017 season ready to work hard and will continue to do so into 2018.
The Spartans are setting their goals realistically but are still looking for a challenge. They want to increase their number of conference wins and focus on overall improvement of the athletes and the team. They will be working hard this season to start rebuilding their program with hopes to continue developing it one season at a time.
