Cedar Rapids Kennedy held their annual team camp yesterday and more teams are in the gym today. Yesterday, there was Liberty, Linn-Mar, Kennedy, Union, Benton, Iowa City West, West Delaware, and Jefferson. Several athletes caught our attention, but these 5 we could tell are going to make a large impact for their team this season.
Megan Renner – S/RS – Linn-Mar – Last year Renner ran a 5-1 which worked and led her team to an appearance in the State tournament. Yesterday, Linn-Mar was in a 6-2 in which Renner was swinging on the rights-side and making this already good team look unstoppable.
Claire Demmer – MB – West Delaware – With Lauren Collier graduating, the team will rely a lot on the arm of senior middle, Claire Demmer. Demmer had 247 kills last season with a hitting percentage of .411%. She stood out yesterday and will continue to make waves this season.
LeeAnn Potter – OH – Liberty – Potter is the go to in the front and back row. She plays stellar defense and is smart on offense. Liberty will look to her not only for kills but also for her leadership on the court.
Claire Overton – OH – Iowa City West – Overton in a new role for West this year. She is playing 6 rotations on the outside and making a statement doing so. Overton calls for the ball in the back row as well making it easy for setter Rylee Fay. With Colby Greene graduated, the team will look to Overton to put the ball away.
Lindsey Culver – RS/MB – Cedar Rapids Jefferson – Culver is a phenomenal multi-sport athlete that will be a difference maker for the already talented Jefferson team. Culver was unstoppable yesterday on the right-side and middle. She is super athletic, making the transition to volleyball look easy. Very excited to watch her impact this high school season.
