First, I do my best to avoid covering or mentioning athletes until they are in high school. That’s getting harder and harder to do considering the 2021 and 2022 classes have each had a play commit to Nebraska before the start of their freshman season. But, those of us at PrepDig feel strongly that it is important to wait until an athlete is participating with its high school team before we start covering them or giving them exposure.
In Nebraska, that means the start of an athlete’s freshman year. In volleyball terms, that means the start of the high school summer camps. The summer camps this past month is when I started really digging into what players looked like they could make an impact at the high school level right away. That involves going to as many camps as possible, talking to as many coaches as possible and watching as much film as possible – when it’s available.
The information below is not complete. I don’t like guessing, and if I don’t have a documented height, position or club affiliation for an athlete, it is not listed. That information will be filled in as the high school season plays out. Also, players on the list might not even make the varsity teams for their schools. I have no information that says that they will – only my own opinion on their talent. Conversely, there are likely to be several varsity playing freshmen this year that are not on this list. I will be the first to admit that I certainly don’t know about every talented incoming freshman. Heck, I’m not even sure where a couple of these players will be playing in high school – I just know that they are really good.
This watch list will be updated following the 2018 high school season and be converted into rankings at that time. Best of luck to all the incoming freshman in the state this season!
